Which chubby? Help a brother out...

SBAD kicking in again. Currently obsessed with 2-band's. Trying to decide between Simpson Chubby 2 or 3. Any recommendations?

Chubby 2 w/o a doubt! Love my Chubby 1 & 3 too but the 2 is close to perfection in my book....The 2 band Super is something special but the Best Badger grade of Simpsons that is used in the Chubby (well in all of their models with this hair) is pure luxury IMO... Good Luck!

The Chubby 2 would be a great choice, and the two band super will be softer than the best hair. I find best to be scritchy, but ymmv of course. The Chubby 3 in two band is a beast of a brush, yet soft and supple with great backbone. You really can't go wrong either way, it all depends on how much brush you want. The CH3 is a very large brush.

Both are amazing. Buy both and then sell the one that doesn't suit your fancy.

Chubby 2 two band, hands down IMO. I love big dense brushes, but the Chubby 3 is truly massive, and can be a real lather hog. I much prefer my Chubby 2 two band, to my former Chubby 3 Super.

While there's a HUGE difference in knot and handle size between the Chubby 1 and 2, there is not as much difference between the Chubby 2 and 3. I you want a big brush, both are outstanding.

I would say the chubby 2. The three is just a ya bigger, but it is noticeable. I don't find myself being able to even remember the last time I used the size 3. Of course the price difference is another factor as well.

Chubby 3 was too big for me I preffer 24-26mm but I also have had my eye on the chubby 2 for quite some time now I have heard nothing but great things about this brush.

Chubby 1 or 2, both are exceptional and the choice depends on your preference for brush size and feel. The choice of badger hair is another variable. I have a variety of Simpson brushes in all hair varieties. They are all different and excellent. A Chubby 1 or 2 in Best would be my personal preference.

Since we're talking about Chubbies, I just bought a CH 1 in Best (which, of course, should really be called "Better"). I love, love, love it! However, I noticed that I only get 2 passes of thin lather when I use soap (i.e., Prorasso), even when I try to get a lot of product on the brush. Today, I used a modest amount of cream (Taylor of Old Bond St.) and got 3 passes of great lather. My other brushes, including my Simpsons Commodore in Best, all produce lots of thick lather from Prorasso and other soaps. Any ideas, suggestions, or explanations?

Chubbies are very dense brushes and need some time to break in and loosen up. New these brushes pack the hairs so tightly together that capillary forces "hog" all the lather, they pull it into the knot and wont let it go. However, with use the bristles will start to flex more allowing more space between the hairs, creating better flow threw. Just be paitient with it, and give it a couple weeks of daily lathers and it will get better, I promise. Though even broke in high density brushes take slightly different technique and more product to use.

still trying to fall in love with my chubby 2 best.....Not really connecting yet. This is the first brush Ive ever seen that didnt like to lather arko for crying out loud! So then I pick up my $15-20 boars, and it demolishes arko, tabac, palmolive....I guess Im so used to the softer, longer lofted badgers like Kents, that maybe i just dont know how to use these short lofted brushes. Thats my conclusion, Im sticking with the chubby 2 bests learning curve....I just dont understand it, It doesnt like soaps or creams, and I face lather 100% and I was told this was one of the Kings of face lathering......I think my shave factory large boar brush might have a word other wise.........any advice is appreciated.

I have both the Chubby 2 and 3, and prefer the 2. I like large brushes but the 3 is just a monster. I have to use large amounts of cream to get the 3 to produce good lather, and then end up with far more lather than I need. I do agree that the Chubby series can take time to grow on you. I disliked my Chubby 2 when I first got it because it's so dense it was hard to generate good lather. With a lengthy breaking in period it has gotten better in this regard, although it' still more work to generate lather than other, less dense brushes.

Ive got Chubby 1 and 2 in 2band, I was obsessed about a Chubby3 in 2band but bought number 2, and Im glad because it turned out that number 2 is to big for me number 1 is perfect.
