Price check, ever ready travel brush

Saw this in a local antique store today, price is marked $37.00 the gentleman who owns this particular station (consignment type store) is an avid shaving collector and will likely give me a discount because of my interest in such things (he usually does), but I have no idea how much of a discount. So I have to go by the price marked. What do you guys think? The handle looks good, the case is good too, no cracks, threads are all there and it is tiny! Maybe 14-16mm knot.

Brushes are worth as much as you will pay for them, which makes this totally subjective. One person would pay 10$ for a brush and another would pay 50$ for the same one, just depending on the value it means to them.

It looks like a solid candidate for a restore, and I believe it would look great polished up with a new knot.
Just try to haggle it down a bit. And if you like it enough, buy it. You're the one that's going to use it and enjoy it on a weekly basis.

Having said all that, that is a little pricey for a small brush like that (The ideal price being anywhere between 5 and 20 dollars.)

If you respect this guy and he respects you, then have an open, straight-up conversation with him about the price. This is probably just a very small (no pun intended) piece of inventory for him in the general picture.

If it were me, I know I would feel very comfortable handing him a $20 bill and calling it a deal. I'd probably go as high as $25. But as Nex said, it's worth is pretty subjective. It also depends on the seller.

You might want to look on e-Bay to see what similar handles are selling for. That will give you a better feel for what the market place really values, not a single price in a store.

I would go $20-25 since it has the tube with it. Thats a great price especially of the knot is in usable condition.

I have an Ever-Ready 200CC with the original travel tube. The tube and handle are in perfect condition. The bristles look great dry, but wet. . .it's like trying to lather with limp noodles. I picked it up for $15. I also have a Rubberset similar to the 200CC, but paid $22. The only reason for the added cost. . .it came with a sliver travel tube.

IMO, $37 is a bit much. But. . . . .if it tickles your fancy. . . .

Thanx guys. My gut was telling me that the price was too high. The seller has only a 6'x8' section in this store with not a lot of shaving stuff other than maybe a dozon vintage talc cans of all types, but the store takes a cut of the sale price of the item, so I assume he is compensating for that. I spoke with the seller on the phone today, he is a serious collector of straights and such, but made sure to tell me that if I ever went to buy something from his booth to call him and he will give me a discount. I did make sure to buy something, though, a NOS box of Berkeley Blades, for $5.

Your gut is usually right in these situations.

There's a knife dealer at a flea market/antiques place near me who has a rolls razor missing the strop and handle, that he swears is complete and the asking price...

$175.



As for that brush. If you want it I'd say 20-25$ is more than fair. It looks unused, but probably because of the era, the knot looks really poorly made... definitely a brush for someone who didn't have many choices in his price range back then. I wouldn't want to use that knot, myself.

That said, I've only seen two 200CC's before (seen many more 300's), so it's pretty hard to find brush. If you like it, you won't likely find another one in the near future.
