Default Anyone shave their head with a straight?

I've been reading the interactive guides for straight razors more and more often lately, and really want to try my hand at shaving with a straight. The problem is I only shave my head and throat, and keep a full beard.

Does anyone shave their head with a straight? Is this a good idea? Any pointers?

    Thanks

I shaved mine the first week or so with a Feather DX straight. Worked fine, but took much longer than I liked. I now switch it up between a straight, disposables, Sensor cartridges, and a DE. Still searching for my cranial vorpal blade solution.

I've done it a few times, but generally need some cleanup with my usual cart.

It is definitely not something for someone new to straights, and not shaving your face, you won't really be able to develop the skills that you'll need to even begin to shave the noggin.

    I'd consider DE.

How is shaving the dome? Is it so different from shaving the face skillset wise? Would a coticule edge help? :p

I buff my head after shaving with 0.3 micron lapping film to get that high gloss look...

In seriousness: it is quite different. Your head has much less "give" than your face due to the underlying skull, and the constant curvature and inability to see 100% of what you are doing also adds to the difficulty factor.

Got it. Maybe it's a job tailor made for the cart.

    A cart, or a DE.
One of my problem areas is when shaving the back, the toe of the blade catching the back of an earlobe.

I would try just for the heck of it, but my head is shaped worse than a potato.

Tried it once on the top and cut my ear.
Have used a cart a few times, thinking a DE might be easier.

I just graduated to shaving my head with a DE, and am still celebrating that, but I can already see me trying a pass on the sides or top of my head with my straight or shavette.
My biggest fear of the DE was the back of my head and behind my ears, but these have been a non issue. I can see me working it slowly and one day getting there, but for now, happy with the DE, I can at least say good bye to the schick extremes, which was the goal.

When I was using a shavette, I did shave my head with it a few times. It was tough, especially for someone as inexperienced with me. But now that I picked up an Ever-Ready 1912 SE, it's a killer head shaver. It's like a straight with training wheels and much easier to keep from hurting yourself. Usually.
