Default 1st shave with my whipped dog

I've just had my 1st WTG straight shave with a whipped dog unseen deal,it went OK with only a few weepers, I finished of with a DE. The main problem is the straight seem to tug a bit I'm sure is not the razor as I've only heard good things about Larry, any ideas.

Thanks in advance for your input.

assuming it was truly shave ready..you use ONLY the weight of the blade on the strop..your lather wasnt too goopy or thick..slick is they key..then you should have no issues..kinda like tinkering to get things "just right"

    Welcome to B&B!

Straight shaving is a skill, like anything else. Your first time sounds like a success . Each shave will get better an better as you tinker with it, as was mentioned.

I would suggest looking up some of the shave journals to see what others did in the beginning stages.

I have a number of whipped dog razors. Larry is great! Kentos is right - lots of info and videos out there to help you get started. Stropping is really the key.

I notice I get tug if I'm not holding the razor at the right angle to my face. My whippeddog was plenty sharp so thats prolly not the issue. Welcome to B&B!

Good job, and welcome to B&B. The tugging you feel is normal when you're starting out. Try using a lower blade angle (keeping the blade flatter against your face) in order to reduce tugging. Also, try making your lather just a little bit wetter. That may help, too.
    Uh-oh.

I just asked Larry about this same issue as he sharpened my new vintage razor. He is a really helpful guy. He suggested that my angle was too severe. I reduced tha angle for the first pass or two and then increased it and all is good.
