Default How does the site log people?

Hey guys, just out of interest when you log into this website does your ip address get associated with your user account. Also, is there a log kept of log in attempts associated with your ip address. I know this is probably a silly question but recently i have gotten paranoid about being tracked on the internet and hope to find out what different sites are doing lol. I know that everyones ip is logged automatically, how often is this kept. Thanks to anyone who answers, by the way what is typical of other sites would also be appreciated.

They take your IP address and then ask your ISP your name and address and put a van in front of your home filled with top notch cameras and audio recorders so as to know exactly what kind of razor you are using.

Beware, cartridge users, the Big Brother is watching ya.

Any forum or web site that register with can track your activity at the site.

All web sites get your current IP when you visit them.

Online tracking is a big deal right now, because it is used for commercial purposes. Most of the time it is so that ads relevant to your online activity can be pushed to you. The thinking is, if they target your interests, then you are more likely to buy. Free online email accounts are one way. Facebook tracking all of your movements around the web is another.

The bottom of every page has a link to http://www.badgerandblade.com/index....=privacypolicy - but unfortunately it is broken and simply redirects to the home page.

We're all (?) adults here and keep our own shaving logs

    Dig that crazy blade buffing!

Seriously, though. A single site can only track your activity on that site. That lets them do things like show you things related to what you like, or what other customers with similar purchases are looking at. Amazon does a lot of that, and sometime I wonder if it's me or someone else that's weird. The larger problem is ISPs, internet infrastructure companies, tracker links embedded in web pages, and browser add-ons that track your overall internet traffic among all sites you visit. Of course, any one site can sell your info, but most buyers prefer to pay for the list of what you actually buy (or a list of everyone that buys certain things) and sites don't need to track you for that. The places that track you everywhere do the same kinds of things, or pretend to, but can also target you as someone that visits a whole bunch of different sites. They can also serve up the log of everywhere you ever went, and when.

Most sites would rather not log anyone. This way, they never have to answer for it. Besides, it just takes up disc space. They do tend to log for a bit in order to help troubleshoot any problems that come up. They might rotate the logs for a few days or hours before throwing them out. It's really not something to worry about on any one site. There might be laws about keeping logs, thanks to DCMA and the patriot act, but they're essentially unenforceable for small sites. If you're concerned about any of this, you can use a proxy.
