Unhappy Tried Proraso Red this morning...

And it burned! It's a shame, because I really liked the scent and lather quality. Anything out there with a similar Sandalwood smell that might be less irritating?

Ouch, that's a tough pill to swallow because this is a great product!

Have you tried AOS Sandalwood cream? Also a fantastic performer, and the scent is very similar to my nose. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply 7 O Menthol. I was bummed about it for sure. I'll have to add AOS to my Christmas list, as it's over twice the price of Proraso. I think I'm going to buy the Proraso anyway as I used it successfully in some superlathers.

If anyone else has suggestions for a cream or soap with a nice sandalwood scent that might not irritate like Proraso, please chime in!

+1 for AOS Sandalwood, it's one of the only sandalwood scents that won't burn my face...

Just got my delivery today, and it included Proraso Red...anyone else think it is very similar to the original formula Body Shop Men's Shave Cream?? (pre-maca root?)

TOBS sandlewood stick is a strong sent to me, and no burn.

I got a sample of TOBS Sandalwood cream from Garry's, but it doesn't smell much like plain sandalwood. It seems like a kind of cologne/perfume smell with a little sandalwood in it. I love the scent from the Proraso - just sandalwood. It's probably why it burned me! Oh well. The search continues. Thanks for the responses!

I had same problem with original Proraso. It was the menthol. Maybe that's what it was for you.

I agree that's a bummer! You might wait a few months and try the new "Blue Proraso" It should be readily available by then. In the meantime try a tube of Musgo Real.

I've been contemplating this. I'm more of a soap guy, but I hear great things about this cream. And I just tried the Musgo Real AS and LOVE it!

Proraso red/Sandalwood Cream has no menthol, but sandalwood oil does have a similar (if generally milder) dynamic. I had the very slightest irritation from it the first time I tried it, but when I used pre-shave beforehand I didn't, so you may want to try that.

I face lathered with the Red so you could be right. I put the cream directly on my face and that may be part of it.

Just tried the red also. It didn't irritate me, I really liked the performance, but the scent through me for a loop. I'm going to have to give it a couple more whirls, but I smelled more going on than just sandalwood. Not sure if I like it yet.

It appears to be scented with:

    Rose or Rose Geranium
    Lemon or possibly Bitter Orange
    Tonka Bean (Sweetgrass/hay scent)
    and of course Sandalwood oil

I don't have sensitive skin and the Proraso Red gave me a nice burn the first time using it but the lather was awesome. I think it is the lactic acid that's in it which I read was used to assist in hair removal and thats probably why the Red is marketed for tought beards. I'm a head shaver and having cours hair (being African American) I tried the Red on my head and it gave me one of the cleanes shaves I ever had with little irritation. Going forward I will use the Green Proraso on my face and the Red for my head.

I too have noticed some burn about every other time I try the proraso red. I'm pretty sensitive though...MRGLO makes me itch and burn like crazy.
