    Palmolive ($6-$7 a tube + ship)
Bigelow $5 for the small tube. Buy 2 and get 1 free. Bath and Body Works. I bought 3 small tubes for $10.34 out the door last weekend.

Some others have mentioned but I'll put out my suggestions:

C.O. Bigelow (only buy it on sale) at Bath & Body Works - as low as $5/5oz tube
Maca Root Shaving Cream (only buy it on sale) at The Body Shop - as low as $5/4oz tube
Dalen D'Men - Love the Sensitive scent
Kiss My Face - use this $3 off coupon if you can buy it locally. Good through 8/31/12 With the coupon the tubes cost me just $2.
Lea Shaving Cream - cheap and free shipping. Scent of the regular is not the greatest but I do like the performance
Herbs of Bulgaria - Awesome lavender scent
Real Shave Company - brought to you by the same company that makes T&H creams.

ShaveABuck.com has several low-cost creams, as does BestShave.net

+1 for Proraso. In fact, it's my current fave over all of the others I have. I've used it every day for 2 weeks straight.

Speick is an excellent choice as well.

    +1 for Proraso.

Ever since I tried it, I routinely bypass my AoS and CF creams for good ole Proraso green. Italian Barber has it for 8.99 a tube, and free shipping over $60. Even with shipping you're out the door (so to speak) for under $15.

Godrej Rich Foam at your Indian grocer (has lanolin) - under $4
Kiss My Face at Whole Foods - $4 for the small tube
Proraso or Bigelow - $5 on sale at Bath and Body Works
Erasmic - nice lanolin offering! - details for men - under $10 but cheaper if you can get it overseas

Welcome to B&B! There is no shortage of suggestions and I am sure that your head is spinning trying to sort it all out. I have always tried to evaluate cheap vs value or to look at it another way a quality item that may be more expensive may be of a better quality, last longer and give you more enjoyment. To that end I recommend that you try any one of Taylors creams. All of the ones I have tried are outstanding performers and have great scents. You might consider trying a fine classic like Rose or sandalwood or even their Avocado which is outstanding. They are just at the price point that you stated as your maximum. Barclay Crocker offers a nice discount to B&B members and I think first time customers that will drop the price further. Get on the email list of several vendors like West Coast Shaving, Barclay Crocker and Bullgoose so you can take advantage of sales and special offers. Good luck on finding your first cream.

    Regards,

    Doug

Had a great shave today with Godrej Lime. All the Godrej creams have worked well for me. Worth visiting your local Indian grocery to see if they stock that, and if they have the Old Spice or Dettol creams, those are nice, too.

The Real Shaving Company stuff is good, and inexpensive.

Arko also makes a shaving cream. The soap is awesome so I would venture that the cream is nice as well. I am a menthol junkie but they have several other kinds.

Proraso/Bigelow... You can't go wrong (can't beat that menthol feel). I am shocked however, La Toja hasn't come up yet. Those two will always be in my den.
