Default My review of Simpson's shave cream

I receive my order of Simpson's shaving cream from Bullgoose yesterday. This morning is my first shave with it and I thought I'd share my thoughts on it.

Firstly you'll notice the pot is very shallow, probably half as deep as a pot of Trumper's or TOBS. Inside however is 4.2oz of very dense shaving cream.

Inside the pot is a very dense, concentrated, pearlescent shaving cream.

This stuff is so concentrated that you need only a very small amount on your brush to produce tons of rich lather. I used a Vulfix 2233S for this shave. This is just a little bit of the cream that was stuck to the lid of the pot.

And this is the lather after a couple of minutes of face lathering. I had way more than enough for three passes.

For this first shave I have to say I give this cream a high score for ease of lathering and slickness. I do nick it a little in the cushion department. I found this particular batch of lather to be lacking in that regard. The Aqua Velva stung a little today and that almost never happens for me. I suspect I over-hydrated the lather this morning. Seeing as this was my first time out I just kept adding water to see what would happen and I think I added a little too much. I'm hopeful that tomorrow's shave will be better as I back off the water a little. In spite of that I still got a nice close shave.

There's nothing to report on scent as this is the unscented version. It does have a slight natural smell to it, sort of earthy soapy but it's hardly noticeable.

I'll report back tomorrow and we'll see whether or not I can get the cushion to improve. I can't imagine it won't. The lather is really thick and dense so a little less water ought to do the trick.

Edit: As I ponder this I may have also been a bit too sparse with the amount of cream. This stuff lathers really easily and the lather is really stable. I was admittedly use as little cream as possible. Tomorrow will be a little more cream and a little less water.

The cream kinda looks like Vulfix Persian Musk cream.
