Thread: Very strange

    Default Very strange

I dont know if this has happened to anybody before, but it did to me and was very strange.

I loaded up my EJ89 with a 7 oclock Gillette(Blue) blade today and face lathered some Proraso Soap(White tub). Keep in mind I have used this combo before without this problem. Anyway, my first pass was WTG however the blade was not cutting ANYTHING. I mean I tried every angle possible and even tried to blade buff but nothing was being cut. After continuing to try and shave the left side of my face, I removed the blade and inserted a Derby. I then re lathered the left side of my face and continued to shave. Ended up with a DFS.

So what do you think happened. Keep in mind this was the second time I used the Gilette Blues, it was a brand new blade and I did palm strop it for about 5 strokes on each side. Does anybody know what may have went wrong? Thanks guys!!

Sounds like a bad blade right out of the pack. This happens rarely, but anytime there is a mass-produced, low cost item like a blade sometimes a dud will get through QC.

+1 on the bad blade. When that happens just load another from the same pack. The next one should be fine, although it is possible to get a few in a row or even an entire bad pack.

Actually, it sounds almost like a case of screwing in the bottom plate upside down, which is extremely common for those DE89s (and 3-piece razors in general). I'm not saying you did do this, but I'm just throwing it out there since you were saying it did no cutting, which is exactly what happens with a reversed bottom plate.

    THIS! No "dud blade".
It's clear the bottom part was upside down, it actually looks more logical that way (try it out), since it seems to curve with the blade.
I had this once and many beginners post questions like that.
When you changed the blade you put it back right again, making it look like the first blade was the problem.
I also never heard of a blade that didn't cut ANYTHING. AT ALL. I mean completely blunt, not even a bit sharp.
