So, I'm trying out different blades. What's the opinion on putting the blades back in the paper from whence they came?

Don't do it. Next thing you know, you'll be suffering from BPAD.

For what reason? Safe disposal or safe storage? For disposal, I would suggest getting a can of broth and partially cutting it open from the side to pour out its content. This slit will be the safety blade dump site for 100+ blades and can go directly in your trash without worrying that the blade cut through the bag (I'll try to post a picture later). If it is for storage, the paper is waxed to avoid any moisture getting to the unused blade thus possibly causing corrosion. If the blade is used and has moisture on it, it wont dry in the wrapper. What could happen, I don't want to guess.
By "directly in your trash", I think Pat. G. means directly to be recycled.Cmon people, think of the polar bears.

This is for storage purposes. So, what's best practice? I can't leave the blades out and about. Children and animals don't mix well with sharp things, much as they want to.

(I think there are biohazard recycling places, btw.)

If you are using them for storage after your shave, my thinking is that the blade wont dry all of the way. I keep mine in the razor so its not an issue for me, but its worth considering.
As for disposal, wouldnt you have to seperate them anyway?
I stick mine in the wall, so they will get recycled when and if they ever tear the apartment down.

if you have a metal backed medicine cabinet attach a magnet to it up high so as the children cannot get to it and attach you blades to be reused to it. Great holder
So Duffy, have any theories to go with that tie?
To me it seems like a lot of hassle to use a blade for a shave or two, stow it until I got back to it, and then load it in the razor again. When sampling blades I'll use them until I'm ready to recycle it and never touch it again. I figure I need several days using the same blade and razor to get a good feel for how it will perform. By that time I've gotten most of the life out of it. Blades are cheap. Don't worry about pitching one that may have another shave or two in it.

I use blades 3 times and chuck them. I either leave them in the razor that I'm using the next day or put them back in the wrapper and put in my drawer. I never touch the surface of a blade but after rinsing my razor and blade, I blow dry them. No worry about moisture.

If using the blade again, I rinse it off after removing from the razor, pat dry in a towel, put back in the wrapper they came in. Takes 5 seconds and for the next shave the blade is nice and clean and has not been subjected to moisture or air (so no oxidation).
I'm sure one could put the blades into a glass of vodka or something similar to prevent oxidation as well (this works extremely well for cartridge razors so I would assume the same for DEs). Don't use rubbing alcohol.
May be a bit of overkill but I think I have noticed an improvement in blade performance since I started doing this. In the past, I would either put them in the razor to be used the next day or leave them in the one that was just used.
Also gives you the opportunity to rinse/wipe/clean out the inside of the razor head after each use which cuts down on the need for extensive cleaning once a week/month/whenever.
Yeah I just keep mine in the razor, might shake it a little or blow on it some to try and get it a little dryer, then after a couple shaves chuck it, I typically fold mine into the cardboard tp holder, we go through that stuff like crazy at my house, it's the women, then pick another out of my sampler and load it up, don't think I would switch a blade out after a use put another one and then go back to my used blade, sounds like work and I am rather allergic to that stuff![]()
Storing used razor blades for future use?? Something about that just sounds all wrong. For disposal, use a child proof prescription jar; it will hold probably a hundred blades...more or less. Then just chuck it in the trash when it gets close to full or (if you have a friendly doctor or health care facility) ask them to dispose of it with their used sharps materials.
Storing used blades??? I think not.
"Here in this darkness, I know what I've done..I know all at once who I am"
Our bathroom is ridiculously small in the place we rent and so I keep my razors in their cases on the top row of the medicine cabinet. Since they're of the 3-piece variety, the blade will not stay in the head while it's in its home. I can put them where the blade box is supposed to go, but was worried that it would bump the sides of the case and dull the blade. So I've been putting them back in the paper to try and keep that from happening. I just though I'd ask around and see what other people have found about putting it back in the paper, as relates to keeping the blade sharp.
As of now, I've got a couple magnets on the back wall of the medicine cabinet and my blades are dangling menacingly in mid-air! Cool!
I'll definitely take other opinions, though.
if anyone has them, that is
...anyone? anyone with an opinion?

No, no, no, no, no, no, NO!

But it would be a great idea to reuse the wrappers and make some craft projects. Maybe a necklace, or a colorful animal, or...
