Anyone ever notice the differnece between the old type razors
I've seen a serial one and a non-serial one
the non-serial one is slightly 'fatter', also the head is thicker
anyone ever experienced changes in shaving between the two?

1918 Gillette Old - Robeson Shuredge 36-M-400 - Gem MMOC - EJDE89 - 58 Flare Tip
http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Old_Type calls the head variations "102" and "102A": I am not sure where those names came from. But I did read a piece in an old Gillette Blade about how easily the early razors were damaged. A bent cap or bent guard could change the performance of the razor for the worse, and cost the company money in returns or lost sales.
Perhaps these concerns led Gillette to thicken the cap in later years. The New Improved design featured thicker outer teeth and a sturdier plate, and The NEW took those changes even further. They may have weak plating and sometimes show handle cracks, but the NEW plate and cap were built like tanks.

How to tell difference between nickel plated and silver plated ball-end OLDs? I mean when you got really dirty razor like this one:
Nerijus | BOTOC
Before you clean it up, look for tarnish. Silver tarnishes, while nickel does not. It may also help to place the razor next to a razor you know to be nickel and one you know to be silver. The color of each is subtly different.
