To you guys who are counting 2 shaves before disposal; do you use both sides of the blade during each shave, or are we talking one side, then the other, then toss out?

I like Astras well enough, but I'm still searching for the perfect blade for me. Also use a DE89, Mama Bear glycerine soap.

I have to agree. I'm not that impressed with feather. Matbe it's too much hype or it could just be YMMV

I get seven shaves per blade. Switch after my Sunday morning shave.
    My mileage does vary.

you gents try crystals? I bought a 100 pk of the double platinum, basically the crystal blues -ISraelis, after sampling a 10 pk. Very good and a notch below feather. I like derbys, ok blades but would not buy them again. I'm awaiting a sample of astras from my brother up in Boston. I just received his personna med blues that I'm itching to try. I get a good 4 shaves out of my crystals.

When I shave, I shave with one edge until the razor is clogged with soap, then turn the razor round and shave with the other edge - then when that's clogged too I rinse the razor and carry on.

If you're thinking of turning the blade over between shaves, that's still the same two cutting edges. Whether turning the blade over makes any difference is debatable, but most people don't think it makes a difference - I haven't found any myself.

PS: I can get 4-5 shaves from an Astra SP on average, which makes them easily the most cost-effective blade I use.

Astra SP rock. When ever I do a head to head with 2 different razors I grab a superior platinum to put in each of the razors.

Another Astra SP vote. My every day go to blade. Today was day 3 on an Astra in ny '56 Red Tip. An honest BBS. I did an experiment and spent a little more time with face prep and diligent lathering between passes and I am of the opinion (yea, we all have one) that technique always is the issue. I usually go 5-6 shaves per blade.

I'm probably being too clumsy (my preferred state of not needing to concentrate) for Feathers. Tried and Astra this morning and so far I think it's the best of the three. Derby and Astra are definitely more forgiving blades.
i came to the same conclusion, the Derby actually on my 6th shave in my DE89-- feather was grabbing my wiskers------------Now. being of somewhat a same mindset/facial need, you might want to try Personna reds, same great shave

I'm sorry, I meant "edges". I just used "sides" without thinking about terminology.

I have found that Feathers seem to do the trick for me. I am now very eager to crack open my Astra pack at the end of the week to see how they stack up for me!

In that case I'm with Alan (Oscroft). He said, "When I shave, I shave with one edge until the razor is clogged with soap, then turn the razor round and shave with the other edge - then when that's clogged too I rinse the razor and carry on."
