You guys made my day.
I don't like my 3/1 in super silvertip. I prefer when hairs effortlessly splay out on my face when building a lather. Rooney 3/1 in SS is just too stiff to do it due to its overly dense knot for my preferences. Rooney 3/1 in SS was my worst ever shaving investment.
Yet, I like Rooney 2/1 in pure badger very much, as it is waaay less dense, and was using it almost exclusively for the past three years for Arko and Honeybee. I'll sell the Rooney 3/1, I'm just being lazy to take pics for BST forum.
I love my Rooneys. I'm down to 11 brushes and 4 of them are Rooneys. I own the XL line (1, 2, and 3 with the 2 being in Jade). The Alibaba 2 in 3-band heritage rounds out the Rooney line.
I've own 2 finest brushes, a 1/1 and a 3/3. I found one too small and the other too big. I got a chance to try a 1/2 finest in horn in a temporary swap and is the only brush on my wish list that I want to own but can't get my hands on.
Own a size 2 in horn? Want to sell?
Only the shavemacs get more play from me at this moment. I have a 2-band flat-top in D01 that is my favorite all-time brush. I think of the 11 the preference goes like this:
D01 2-band Flat-top 22/44 in marble handle; Rooney 2XL in Jade; D01 3-band fan in a vintage plisson handle; Rooney 1XL; M&F Horn 27/48 2band heritage; Rooney 3XL; Rudy Vey Shavemac 3-band in jade barrel handle; Rooney Alibaba 2 in 3-band heritage; Simpsons Tulip 4 3-band super; Rudy Vey B&B LE 2011; and Kent P8.

I love my 2XL Heritage Rooney. It gets almost as much use as My Shavemac D01. Great brush!
My 3/3 Super is always in the rotation. The large handle makes it easy to flick the water out at the end of the shave.

I just bought a Rooney 3/1 super silvertip off the BST, my first silvertip. YES!

I won't speculate on the variables at play, but it seems to me that Rooney isn't seen as "cool" as much of the competition these days. My 3/1 in silvertip may be boring to a B&B young stud, but it's a hall of fame brush in my den, alongside such greats as the Simpsons Chubby and M&F blonde badger. Enough said (for now).
Some of my older Rooney's are like members of a family. All wonderful, with individual characteristics all of their own.

I've got a Rooney 3/1 in horn in-bound from Vintage Blades. This is only the second time I've ordered from them but I've found their customer service outstanding.

My 1/3 in super is my favorite brush. Thought it was too big, at first, but know it is just right. Easy on the face with no scritch. I'll be buying more Rooneys in the future.
