Parker do it already with 98R in brass. Vintage Gillette heads still lasts, so I'll prefer brass.

It is actually a Mühle head, Edwin Jagger just uses them. I doubt the legality of exact duplication (at least for commercial purposes). Gillette duplications by Parker are possible because design patents for those Gillette models was 17 years.

I have them both and there are Totally two different shaves. There both Excellent Shavers But Totally Different in Sweet spot achieving, head design, blade angle, Etc. I just wish Mhule would Make That EJ89 head in stainless steel :o/ I would buy a few and so would many fans of the EJ89 Razors as well.

It's actually a joint venture between the two companies.

Some have said that one company or the other owns the design and sells/licenses it to the other. More often than not, it is seems to be stated that it is a Muhle head and that Jagger buys them from Muhle, possibly due to the fact that Muhle's models are more expensive/prestigious, so the logic could follow that EJ gets the head from Muhle and sells their razor at a significantly lower price.

While it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, I have been curious about this for quite a while because there seems to be no consensus on ownership of the design. And, being the owner of a Jagger DE, I just wanted to know.

So, here is the official answer, at least EJ's official answer:

    Dear Steve

Thanks for your email. The new head design was a joint venture between Edwin Jagger and Mueller. Neil Jagger – being a designer – was very much at the forefront of the design but they agree to share the credit for what is very widely used and highly effective DE head. That is it in a nutshell. Both companies independently source the same product for which they have created and own the tooling.

I hope this clears it up for you?

    Kind regards

Clear as mud? I find it interesting that she states that both companies independently source the same product, but that they both own the tooling. Does that mean that the razors are produced by a 3rd party for both companies? And if they are "independently" sourced, are they each being made by different manufacturers?

Maybe no one else was curious about this, but I was

Honestly I don't get all the admiration for that head.

I bought a Muhle R89 with high expectations, but I dumped it on the BST after a month or two. Last week a friend loaned me his actual EJ DE89; I've been using the handle with a Stahly head. This morning I decided to try the razor the way it was meant to be used, with the EJ handle on the EJ head.

Once again, very disappointed. So much so that I took the blade out of the razor and put it into a fat-handled Tech for the second pass. There wasn't any comparison at all. The Tech is a much better shaver than the DE89 for me.

So, I'll say it again, the praise for this head design is something I guess I'll never understand. And if they made one in stainless steel I still wouldn't want to use it.

Guess it just doesnt work for you :o/

Just take a look.a Geofatboy on youtube, He Says Wow About 5-10 times in this Video praising the EJ89 For its efficentness and Smoothness. It does the same for me Everytime i try it, and to make mine more Efficient i added mine to a Weber Bulldog handle, and its even better then with the original "Light" handle do to the added weight.

Try putting a Solid Heavy handle and see what kind of Feedback you get :o)

Yep. This is about as simple as it gets, and probably the right answer.

It's a bizarre head design to me. It actually has a pretty large blade gap; much bigger than my FaTip or a NEW or my Stahly. Even larger than my Red tip. But there's virtually no blade exposure. So it's a big gap with almost no blade exposure.

My favorite razors all have smaller gaps and much more exposure.

So I guess it's a personal preference thing. Everytime I use an 89-type head it feels really smooth while I'm shaving, but then when I'm done I find tiny red marks on my face or I get an ingrown hair or I notice irritation about half an hour later. This doesn't happen with my other razors.

. How about adding a few shims to the razor of the EJ89? Have your ever tried that ?

YMMV. I love the DE89 design, but it's very easy to forget you're working with something pretty sharp. Sometimes I find myself applying too much pressure or just being careful in general. That's when I end up with a couple red spots - they go away quick enough, though.
