    I am risking a potentially stupid question here, are all Merkur 39 C's sledgehammers? Or was the sledgehammer edition special?

    That is correct, the 37c or 37g is the standard slant.

    My 39c and 37c are my preferred razors along with my New LC.

    Love it! Was looking for a 37G (gold) as well but they are a bit hard to find since the gold ones have been discontinued. Maybe I'll get lucky on the B/S/T one day...
