Thread: MWF I did it!

    Default MWF I did it!

So I'm brand new to the DE world. Had my first shave last week. I bought MWF as my first soap. Maybe not the smartest move but I figured, "how hard can it be." Well, harder than I thought. I had read that the stuff was hard to lather and its true. I had a really hard time lathering it. I did test batches with different amounts of water, different water temp, etc. Nothing seemed to be working. I always ended up with very little lather that didn't protect well and dried quickly.

I had a break through today, though. Instead of using my tap water, which is really hard, I used Brita filtered water. I nuked a cup of it for about a minute and it was just warmer than room temperature. Using the technique from this video http://youtu.be/u_x9AMJi1RI I made a ton of great lather really quickly! It was so good I couldn't just throw it out. I lathered up my face and took a pass even though I didn't need a shave. Pretty great results.

My issue really just seemed to be the hardness of my water. Hope this helps others. Thanks to all those who posted on other MWF forums about your tips and tricks. They helped a bunch.

Glad you got the hang of MWF. It is such a fantastic soap, I feel sorry for those who are unable to lather it up.

My first time I also wondered what everyone was talking about. Then I did a little research and BAM great smelling and ultra protective lather! I love the stuff!! Now all I need is to pick up one of those ceramic bowls..........

Is the main benefit of MWF the lanolin? Anyone with a lot of experience with both MWF and something like Musgo Real able to compare the two? I have a fair bit of experience with Musgo Real, and really like it.

I haven't used Musgo Real, but I love MWF. It leaves my skin feeling great, but can irritate some people's skin.

MWF is one of my favorite soaps that I have tried so far. I am glad you were able to figure out a way to get it to later. Provides great, close shaves and leaves my skin feeling great. I also noticed that it is less irritating to my face than many things I have tried. If my face is a little beat up, this is my go to.
