    Default Ikon s3s

    Gents,

So I've been looking at the ikon s3s and was wondering what the purpose of an open comb on one side and a straight guard on the other? Would you do pass 1 with the guard and 2 and 3 with the open comb? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Pat.

When I bought mine, I figured that I would use the open comb for most of my shave area and the closed comb for the more tender areas - like just above my lip. I wasn't terribly fond of it because it was, essentially a single-edge razor. In other words, if I was using the open comb side, I had to rinse it twice as often because I couldn't just flip it over and use the other edge of the blade. And obviously the same was true with the closed comb side. Add in a slightly difficult-to-find blade angle and I decided the razor was more trouble than it was worth, so I sold it. Besides, I can use my Vision or Futur (or Slim or Fatboy) and adjust it as needed.

I do the first 2 passes on the OC side (WTG and the XTG) and use the CC side for ATG and touchups. Going with the OC first clears more growth and by the time you get to the CC side, the stubble's pretty much gone to ground. Good razor, I'd recommend it.
