Looking at getting my first razor and the Truefitt and Hill classic with the white handle caught my eye. Is that a good razor for the money and is it a good first choice for a new wetshaver?
Thanks for the help and advice.

Cant answer about the razor. But if you want to try out De shaving i would recomend something for a low cost. The Lord l6 is a great beginners razor for a example. You could always buy a luxury razor later if you want to continue.
That way you dont lose much money if you decide its not something for you.

I agree, Johan. Poke around and some flea markets and pick up some history.
I'm after a C-3 Black Handled SS, or C-3 Super Adjustable.
Welcome to B&B. There are many great razors to be had for much less than the ones you mentioned. I have never tried any Truefitt and Hill razors, so I can't say if they are worth the money. However, that price range is more the luxury range.
Great razors can be had new for less than half the cost of those, such as the very popular Edwin Jagger mentioned above. Also, there are tons of great quality vintage used razors for sale for very reasonable prices; mostly Gillette, but there are many other brands. Check eBay or your local antique store. I got several of my first DE razors at less than $20 each, and most are in quite good condition. Actually, all the razors I own are vintage gillettes (one Tech and 3 super speeds).
As with most things in wet shaving, your mileage may vary on razors. That said, I would recommend something like the DE89L or a vintage Gillette Super Speed or Tech. Get something and stick with it. You will need to minimize variables as you develop your wet shaving skills, so don't give in to changing things up much until you start really getting comfortable with the basics (beard prep, lathering, shave passes, post).
Good luck!
Jon
