    Default TOBS usage

This morning I tried a sample of DRH Windsor, after using a few tubs of TOBS. I applied the same amount I would if I were using TOBS. I found myself adding more, and more water, until in the end I looked like a soap factory disaster survivor. The lather was crazy.

Have you found that you need to use more TOBS cream then, say, Trumpers or DRH?
Shut the door, they're coming through the window.

I don't need to use much TOBS at all to great a large amount of lather, I normally just dip the tips of my brush and get enough lather for 4 or 5 passes. YMMV of course.

I haven't tried a DRH cream, but I have several TOBS varieties and have not noticed using more cream than anything else I have tried.

I currently own 5 TOBS (Avocado, Sandalwood, MR Taylor, Jermyn Street and Barber Shop) and 4 DR Harris (Windsor, Arlington, Marlborough, Almond) and I do find that I need to use 50% more product of my TOBS than I need to use of my DR Harris - only the TOBS Jermyn Street is almost similar to DR Harris in that I only have to use a little less product.

I also don't get the same high quality lather from my TOBS as I get from my DR Harris, the TOBS are still VERY fine shaving creams, but my DR Harris is close to outstanding, and I honestly rank them above my 2 pot of Castle Forbes (Lavender & Lime) if I look at shaving performance only. Scent wise the CF are a notch better, although Windsor & Arlington are outstanding too in this regard.

I feel that both AOS creams and DR Harris creams get little to no love on these boards, while I find both my 4 pots of AOS and my 4 pots of DR Harris to be TOP NOTCH shaving creams - only beaten by my Italien trio - Acca Kappa 1869, Acqua di Parma, Santa Maria Novella and the Domenica Caraceni manufactured Xpec.

YMMV and of course it often does.....

To be honest - I feel that more routine I get in dealing with shaving creams the more success do I get in getting at least a fine shave even with very cheap low budget shaving creams........ I think can get at least an adequate shave with a lousy shaving cream these days
