Default Most efficient razor: Mühle R41 vs. Fatip vs. Merkur Slant ?

Sold a couple vintage Gillettes that I was rarely using. Now I'm "itching" for a modern razor. My only modern razor ATM is a Lord L6
I would like something really efficient. So far I found that Gillette NEW SC works good for me. I only had one shave OCMM but liked it too.
Now I'm thinking about getting one of those:
    • Mühle R41
    • Fatip
    • Merkur 37C Slant

Which one of those would be the most efficient razor? Not necessarily the most aggressive though.

I only own or have tried one of these razors (Fatip), so I am hardly a good representative.

The R41 is the most aggressive by a fair margin. For me it's over-kill as my Joris* is as efficient as I need. I want my shaves to be relaxed zen-like experiences not adrenalin fueled thrill-rides.

*The Joris is similar to but not exactly the same as the FaTip; I find it delivers a smoother more comfortable shave than the FaTip.

I don't own the slant, but I use my FaTip regularly and my R41 when I'm in no hurry. The R41 is definitely the most efficient for me...

I am not sure what you mean by efficient. If you are talking about saving time, the R41 takes fewer passes and therefore, less time, because it removes more hair with each pass. If you want a good, close, relatively mindless (meaning not intimidating or too aggressive) shave, then the 37C is the right choice (I have a 39C which has a longer, thinner handle). The Fatip is a more aggressive razor that gives a good, close shave and works even better with an aftermarket longer, heavier handle. You can also put a longer handle on the R41 to help tame its (extreme) aggressiveness. So the fastest is the R41 (but pay close attention when using it) and the easiest is the 37C. Which one do I reach for the most often? The Fatip.

I have all 3 and will take the slant. However, if you had included the LC New, I would have different opinion.

I already have SC NEW (and love it). Is LC that much different?

I have all three (39c slant) too.
    R41 is most aggressive
Fatip is very close to R41 aggressiveness but cheaper and with lower finish, heavier handle gives more to think about.
Slant is on my scale on medium aggressiveness maybe lean a bit on the mild side even. It's most forgiving of all three.

My order is for you if your effective word is not a synonym for aggressive one.
    1. Slant 2. R41 3. Fatip

I voted r41 but my favorite at the moment for a close, smooth long lasting shave is a Futur!

I have owned all three, but sold the R41 after about a ten shave trial. Too aggressive for me. I like the Slant just a tiny bit more than the Fatip. I find that the Slant does the job with two passes most days, and gives no irritation. Fatip works better if I've skipped a day or two.

I shave mostly every other day. I'm leaning towards Fatip because I feel that R41 might be overkill. And I don't want shaving to be become a chore.
    But keep opinions coming guys.

This is a tough call as I have and use all 3.To me tho it's not on the list is the Joris.Gives me a great 2 pass shave,1 pass head. The R41 is probably the most efficient of all of em,but I dont find it to be a everyday razor, plus it's the only razor I own that my head doesn't like.I have a 39c slanthammer and it always delivers a great shave.Same with a FaTip, always gives me a great shave.

Ok, my vote is going to go to the r41,even tho I dont feel it's a great everyday razor it is hands down the most efficient razor I own.

Doesn't Joris have identical (or almost identical) head to Fatip? And it probably costs at least twice as much.

The heads are almost identical, but the Joris (now Plisson) is a much better-made, more beautiful and more elegant product. The Fatip is utilitarian while the Joris/Plisson is a hedonistic pleasure. Both get the job done very well.

I've checked the prices for Joris and it's really "too rich for my blood" I guess I'm cheap because I like cheaper (but quality) things and "bling" isn't that important to me.

Well I read on the forums all the time that Slants are very efficient without being too aggressive. That's why I'm curious about one.

To clear things up, I wonder which of the three is as as efficient as possible but not aggressive to the point that shaving becomes work and not pleasure. I like aggressive razors, but not crazy aggressive if that makes sense.

When I think back to the days before I tried a Joris, Fatip, Gillette "Old" or Muhle R41, I thought the slant was a more aggressive razor than the mainstream Jaggers, Merkurs and Gillettes that I had been using up to that point. It wasn't until I tried the really aggressive razors that I began to think of the Slants as merely "slightly aggressive".

Of the three the slant is best for me, I have tried the R 41, and can get a good shave with it but honestly I am on pins and needles everytime I use it. It's just too unforgiving. The Fattip is ok, a bit more aggresive than the slant and nothing like the R 41.

    Jeff
