Default Polished off tubs of Trumper Coconut & TOBS Jermyn St; not refilling either

After about a year of solid & respectable service, I polished off both tubs within 3 shaves of one another. At this stage in my life, I only want tubs that I love. That means:

    Nancy Boy Signature
    Nancy Boy Replenishing
    Castle Forbes Cedar & Sandalwood

These are very different creams and the common denominator is luxury. Don't get me wrong: TOBS Jermyn Street is very respectable. I loved the scent so much initially that I bought the aftershave, the balm, the lotion, the cologne. Over time, it began to smell "perfumey" to me. Have I lost my mind? In any event. I will probably post the remains of my TOBS Jermyn Street Collection on B/S/T soon.

Regarding Trumper Coconut, here is another solid performer. But it simply isn't love. So I used the tub and now it is gone.

So after that meandering preamble here is my question: IMHO, TOBS and Trumpers are good but just one step below the top tier which includes Nancy Boy, Castle Forbes, AdP, and perhaps a few others. Of course, YMMV, etc. Anyone care to voice an opinion?

I think that Trumper's Coconut is a very good cream. For me, it's in my top three along with AoS Lemon and AdP.

In my opinion, Trumpers is in the top tier with Castle Forbes but TOBS is not. I haven't tried Nancy Boy mind you.

I am in agreement with you. I feel that Trumpers and TOBS are both great - TOBS for the value. However they are a definite notch under Castle Forbes and Martin de Candre. I've lately categorized soaps and creams as either in the category of highly priced and worth it (like CF and MDC) and incredible value as in lower cost but tremendous performance for the spend (MWF, Cella, Proraso Sandalwood). TOBS and Trumpers, while both nice, don't seem to make it in either category. I can match their shave quality with a lower priced product.

I seem to be on the same page as OP. Nancy Boy Signature has been my top performer. It gives such a cushiony lather and the scent is great (replenishing is very fresh, but not my thing). I've found my other creams to be sub par and have sold them off to replace them with CF and I've ordered a sample of Trumper Coconut since it's so highly regarded.

I also had to sell off my 1805 because it was too "perfumey"

At this point, I'm all about performance and scent takes a back seat.

Trumpers Violet and the T&H line are in my top Tier along with Floris and BB.

CF is in the second tier with TOBS.

Nancy boy is in the realm of ARKO

Im all about performance which is what I get out of my top tiers. One pass BBS...those are the creams that are part of the team that get me there. Of course, BB and Floris are fine frags too....as are those in the T&H line I like

How on earth can you get a BBS in one pass
Do you shave 3 times a day
Or do you use a Fusion cart and count the 'touch up' as part of your only pass

After being at this as a B&B member going on 6 years, the only cream I would replace is Blenheim Bouquet.

Easy...I know my face and only use the best performing creams, sharpest blades and I shower shave and face lather. No magic or TMs involved

BBS in one pass is definitely possible with a good blade and the right stroke for each part of your face. I usually don't achieve BBS on my entire face in one pass though, just parts of it.

I recommend getting a puck of something, say EJ sea buckthorn, and throw that in the old TOBS tub. Works perfect.

Legnth of stroke. Speed of stroke. Direction of stroke. Angle of stroke. Each one is face dependent.

It's an ongoing joke here on B&B.

I'm totally with Tkocloser on the Nancy Boy! When I'm not on the Bay Rum, it's Nancy Boy Signature and Replenishing. I love the smell of cucumber in the morning. It smells like.... sushi!!!
I also get a kick out of showing my buddies the Nancy Boy labels. Nevertheless... I also love Trumper Coconut and I will never poo poo it. All are in my permanent rotation.

Describing or acheieving? Achieving is easy, Ill give it a shot in description.

The first gig is having hardware and software that will easily give you a non irritating no cut no weeper BBS (what I call perfect BBS). I generally use 2 razors, a Black Beauty set on 9 and an R89. I use the BB set on 9 for the one pass BBS.

Blade: I use vintage Wilkinsons and Feathers. One pass BBS is easy for me with Feathers, a little harder with the Wilkies. Both are the sharpest blades for me I have found.

Prep: Shower shave, lots of moisture, face lather cream after face scrub with Nivea Scrub or Body Shop Seaweed Face Wash. Creams used are Trumpers Violet (any Trumper of your choice will do), T&H (pick your scent), Blenheim Bouquet, Floris.

Technique: My face isnt your face. I use on my neck long, slow xtgaTG, cheeks, short fast ATGATG hooks.

After the pass, I rinse and rub to see ifin I did it ( I usually do). Then I lather up some more and polish myself with the R89 since a one pass BBS doesnt last very long.

I may be wrong but, I believe that an additional lathering and buffing counts as a second pass. This off topic debate is about whether or not a BBS can be successfully achieved in one pass and one pass only. Sounds like a shaggy dog story to me.
(didn't mean to sound strident: I am, nevertheless, very impressed with a pass and buff BBS)
