    Default Traveling tips/wiki?

I've done some searches and looked over the wiki but have not found a thread or a sticky on travel recommendations.

    Some noob questions:

    What to Bring
Soaps/creams: A tube or a jar of cream packs better. How to travel with soaps?
Brush + Bowl: I would prefer plastic, maybe the salsa bowl from K-Mart that everyone seems to like?
Razor: Any suggestions on how to protect my Fatboy or Slimboy?

    Airport security
Carry on DE blades? Seems to me some car keys (Honda keys particularly) are more lethal than DE blades. How about creams/soap/aftershaves. 3.4oz or less is allowed for carry on. Can one purchase sample sizes?

    Packing
Really why I'm posting this thread. If I have to shave in the AM and check out of the Hotel, the razor, bowls, creams/soaps aren't a problem but what about the wet brush? I found through my search that a used prescription medicine pill bottle (or something similar) works well with brushes but do I just pack a wet brush in the bottle?

The only page that we got is the Air Travel...

There's also the travel category: http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Category:Travel

There are tidbits of travel advice scattered all over the forum. I agree that it would be a good idea to compile some of it into the Wiki.

Most recently was a discussion about the new silicone collapsible bowls, and using small steel "patty" containers like what KMF "Olive my body" comes in... very compact, and an unbreakable bowl.

Depending on your after shave preferences, something like this may work well for you, and if you back off to shaving with carts when traveling, the liquid/gel quantities and composition are all carry-on friendly.
Personally, I take regular bottled aftershave and my straights, but I rarely fly... haven't flown since 2006 or 2007. Anywhere inside of 1500 miles, I'll drive.

I prefer carry on luggage total so this was my setup on the last trip:

DE blades in carry-on are not allowed. Buy at your destination or send them ahead. Or, check your luggage. Creams over 100ml are also a no-go for carry on.

Here's what does work for travel:
    * Tubes 100ml or under (most tube creams other than the big ones like Proraso, La Toja, Musgo Real) - but no tubs, and hard soaps.
    * Buy blades from Walgreens, or mail them ahead of time in care of your own name to the hotel. Here's how I label the envelope:
    Hotel Name
    Hotel Street Address
c/o Your Name, Guest (date from/to)
    City, State, ZIP
Call ahead of time before your arrival and let them know that you are mailing material to yourself and to hold it at the desk for check-in.
    * Alternately, take BIC or similar single-blade disposables.
    * Use the room hair dryer on a low setting to dry your brush the morning of departure. Large pill bottles or a section of paper towel roll will keep your brush from getting mangled.

How to make your life easy at airport security:
    * Pack your razor in your "wet bag" along with any creams or AS/Colognes for inspection.
    * Make sure there are no blades in your razor.
    * If a TTO razor, open the razor so that it's visibly empty.
    * Hard soaps, brushes, and bowls can be packed with the rest of your clothes.
    * If taking tube creams, best to take those in plastic tubes with the volume clearly marked. Metal tubes (Speick, etc.) that you roll down frequently obscure the size labelling, leading to issues with identifying them as 100ml or less.

I have no trouble whatsoever getting through security. Just make it as easy as possible for them to check your gear quickly and without rummaging through the rest of your bag(s).

Quite subjective/YMMV. I use the same gear i use at home: soap in bowl, ceramic lathering bowl, etc. I add a leather travel case for my DE and the Muhle travel tube and switch to a brush that fits the tube. You don't have to have special travel gear but some prefer to do so. It's really your call as to how you handle travel in this regard.

It really doesn't matter what you (or any random person for that matter) think. What TSA says is what matters. As always with this question, you can check the TSA site:

Use a ventilated tube and remove the brush from the tube as soon as possible when you get you your next destination. If you're DIY'ing it then drill some holes in the prescription bottle.

As far as essentials you can get this at any AOS, Ulta, or Nordstrom in your area.

Pack your brush in a toilet paper roll wrapped in some saran wrap or tape and the razor in the same thing with the ends plugged with paper towel to keep it in. . Worked great for me last weekend and you can throw both away when done. I don't think any of us are in danger of running out of TP rolls.

An important note, covered in the wiki but bears repeating here...

100ml CONTAINER. You can't bring that 400ml bottle of Floid that only has 100ml left.
Also, you have a limit of a total of 400ml, AND all containers must fit within a single one-quart (one litre) Zip-Lock bag.

I'm not 100% sure on the current policies for aerosols... it's been so long since I've used them for anything other than paint and killing insects that they have not been a concern for me for air travel since restrictions went in place.
