    Default My Last Pinaud

I'm a big Pinaud fan. I've got all of the current production, including the astonishingly vile Tres Flores. Everything, that is, except Clubman Musk. For some reason, I never picked it up when it was in the store and when I'd return to get it, it would be sold out.

Today, I stopped into my local B&M to get a replacement bottle of Eau de Quinine and I noticed that they had restocked the Musk. I paused for a moment, then grabbed one. When I got home, I cracked the bottle and checked it out. I will admit to being very surprised. I get more of a chemical smell from the bottle than any other Pinaud--almost like it has some acetone in it. But when it goes on, it's pretty much like regular Clubman. I wasn't expecting a herd of yaks on a hot summer day, but I thought it might be a little muskier. Since it's named musk and everything. But no matter--it still radiates that Pinaud goodness.

    The set is complete.

I think I have 7 or 8 Pinaud ASs and I love them all........except for the Veg.

Musk is my favorite out of all of their scents.

It just does it for me. It is one product I have several bottles of so that I make sure I never run out of it

Great post indeed, Brian! I'm also a huge fan of Pinaud Clubman and find that these marvellous US splashes are easily comparable in scent and performance to the best European aftershaves, like the Italian or Spanish Floids. I currently have the regular, the Classic Vanilla and the Special Reserve. Three gems in my book.

The Nid Hog may now face the prospect of the The Final Shave and Last Formation without a Pinaud regret. Well done, sir.

Marco, it does my heart good to hear you say that. There are those who sneer at any "drugstore" aftershave and put the Pinaud products in that class.

There is a hing of the Veg to it, but I love the Veg and can't stand Tres Flores. The only reason I keep it around is because the color reminds me of the Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day. Here' s an old thread about it:

Thank you! I'm happy, but I'm a little disappointed too. No more Pinaud to explore. After all, the odds are against them ever coming out with something new.

I am slowly trying to get to all of the Pinauds. I love my Clubman and Bay Rum, and have some Special Reserve on the way. I also have been chosen, so gonna pick some Veg up soon. Haven't heard of the Tres Flores, now there is another one on the list.

Like you, I find the scent of Clubman Musk on the skin to be almost no different than that of original Clubman. My wife, however, LOVES it (she's a musk fan).

The "classic" doesn't really do much. Ya, it's powdery, but I don't really pick up any scent at all.
Only used Lime Sec a couple of times.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on Tres Flores. I thought it was awful, but there are so many different takes on Pinaud products that differing opinions can be really useful. What do you like about it?

For the money you really can't beat Pinaud. I thought I was relegated to only using them in the summertime because they dried my skin in the winter, but I read about putting glycerin in the bottle and it is pretty good in the winter now. It's a good thing, too, because the special reserve is an amazing winter scent.

Love the classic, I mix a little bourbon and glycerin into it to make it my all time favorite aftershave. I tried the SR. Liked it pretty well, but ended up trading it. The Tres Flores is an aftershave? I just have the pomade version. Smells too feminine and a classmate once asked what smelled like diapers when I sat next to her.

A question for you, my friends: the Lime Sec is labelled "eau de cologne", but can it also be used as an aftershave? If so, is it a good one for this purpose? And what about its scent? Is it true Lime with strong longevity? Thank you.

The Lime Sec is very citrusy without the usual powdery scent that Pinaud is known for. I personally prefer Citrus Musk over Lime Sec because it has a bit more character and doesn't smell as "thin". Both can be used as aftershaves. The Lime Sec doesn't have as much staying power as the CM.

I love it, it isn't a feminine vanilla.

I think that all of the Pinauds can be used as aftershaves. Lime Sec would certainly work. It isn't really a very good lime--smells quite a bit like sweet lime candy. I think that the Citrus Musk is much better. It goes on with a citrusy blast but dries down to something that smells a bit like freshly ironed laundry.
