Default NEW Aristocrat DeLuxe has arrived

I posted this in 'The Score' thread but I hope you don't mind me posting it again here.

Every time I look at this razor I just go - WOW.

These pics are from the seller. It arrived recently and I've given a quick clean but no more pics yet.

Enjoy one of the most beautiful razors Gillette ever made in my view. There is a little scratching across the engraving on the head (which might polish out but I'm going slowly on this) but everything else has cleaned up nicely.

According to this advertisement for it it cost $US75 in 1930. Hmmm, using CPI indexation $US75 in 1930 = $US1,031.25 now. Even considering I only got the razor it was a good deal :)

Most beautiful razor I have ever seen.In 1930 only a very very select few could shell out that kind of dough for a razor.Look at the quality of the engraving (stamping ?) it closely resembles the fine firearms artwork artwork engraving from the same period...what an unbelievable treasure !

Congratulations to this great razor! But it´s not a NEW. It´s a New Improved from the 20s.

Beauty, Mark! What you've got there is a New Improved De Luxe like mine, though, not the NEW DeLuxe Aristocrat from that ad. They did also sell for $75 originally, though, and in the '20s!

Out of curiosity, what's the serial number on yours?

While I'm not going to argue with Achim and Porter - What makes this a New Improved De Luxe not the NEW Aristocrat De Luxe? It looks to me to be exactly
the same as the razor in the advertisement I linked to?

There is no serial number BTW.

In response to a couple of people that have asked it was listed on eBay, actually at the same time as Porter's set. After what happened with that listing I checked this one and it had been removed too - so I contacted the seller who still had it and did a deal. Then I waited what seemed like an eternity for it to arrive hoping I'd not been conned! I was very happy when it arrived.

The styling on the two is the same, but the heads are different. The most visible difference is the New Improved's cap studs where the NEW DeLuxe has the solid-bottomed guard plate and slotted cap. Here's a catalog page showing the New Improved De Luxe:

Darn... I was hoping for something to help sort out the "S" number on mine. Presumably yours was from the window from '27 to '28 when they didn't number the New Improveds, then.

It's easy to get distracted when you're looking at that razor. I totally understand. Of course, you'll still have to forfeit half your collection as a penalty. I'll let you know where to send them.
