    Default A proposal to management.

    Hi.

I would like to propose that a new forum dedicated to pre-shaves be created.

I have read the previous posts that have requested this and I understand the reasons why there has been some reluctance to do this in the past. I do not make this request lightly and I have several reasons to justify my request, which are:

1, Pre shave products and techniques are only really discussed in the newbie checkin forum. A new forum for the discussion of pre-shave products and techniques would allow the newbie forum to be a dedicated welcome forum without fear of hijacking a newbies thread to discuss pre-shave products in depth.

2, I beleive that the lack of a pre-shave forum 'stifles' discussion of pre-shave products and techniques. Not everyone can get on with Kyles pre-shave prep and although Oils are generally frowned upon, some people do use them and I for one would love to have forum where we can discuss this. There are also a host of other products that people use (olive oil, moisturisers, castor oil, etc, etc.) and again, I would like to discuss these in more detail

3, I note that there is not a review section for pre-shave products, I assume that this is linked in some way to not having a pre-shave forum? Again, I would love to see a section on the review of pre-shave products and peoples experiences with them.

I hate it when my staff come to me with a problem, but have not thought about the solution, so may I propose a solution? I propose a re-arrange of the current forums; there are several current forums that could be made into subforums of a overall category. Can I also suggest that the forums be 'moved' to mirror the shave process? (Currently they are all over the place.)

That way a new forum could be created with minimal effort and 'patrolling' by the mods?

    My suggestion would be:

    General Discussion
Newbie Check in and shave clinic
    SOTD

    Pre-shave products
Lather products (split into 2 sub forums of Soap and Cream)
    Brushes
Razors (Split into 2 subforums Safety and Straight)
Post shave products (split into 3 sub-forums, AS, ASB & Moisturisers)
    Colognes

    Skin, Body & hair Care
    Pictorials

The rest of the forums to remain as they are.

I trust that this request is not 'out of order', I honestly beleive that we are missing something by not having a dedicated forum to discuss pre-shave products.

    Regards

    Jules

Jules, the mods will take this under advisement.

    Jules, your suggestion is welcome.

This is my personal opinion as a member, not a statement of B&B, we will consider a Preshave subforum, but the other changes most likely will not take place because they are all extremely large and successful forums and others like the straight razor forum we are making a conscious effort to grow (and at present are getting quite large and successful as well) and I would not bump it back to a sub-forum. Additionally combining two huge forums like creams and soaps into one would not be productive as alike as they are, they are equally as different.

Though, even without a preshave forum, while some members do not believe in them, like myself (with the glaring exception of Kyle's PreShave Prep which is the best and Proraso Pre/Post isn't bad either IMO) the discussion of them is always welcome in either the Shave Clinic or the General Forum and just because a person doesn't recommend a product as I don't our opinion is only given out of an honest desire to protect members from purchasing an often expensive and in our opinion ineffectual product, but these products do work for some people and their discussion is always welcome.

Though, the review section for these products could be beneficial, IMO. It will be considered as all of them will be.

Once again, thanks for your suggestion.

First, thank you for the suggestion. No, it is not out of order. Honest and well thought out suggestions for improving the B&B are never out of order, whether or not they eventually get adopted.

My thoughts. Speaking, like Tim, just as an individual member. I have mixed feelings about that. Partly, perhaps, because I don't really believe in pre-shave products. And also because I worry about clutter with the multiplication of forums. I realize you tried, rather thoughtfully, to address that, but to me whether they are in subforums does not matter. But perhaps it would to some who just aren't interesting in certain broad topics.

At the same time, I realize some people do find pre-shave products helpful. And that even for those who don't, good pre-shave technique is important. I think that to some extent, the organization as it is assumes that pre-shave process is something you need to experiment with and learn as a newbie, but that for the rest of us, it is something we have settled into, and aren't that interested in thinking about, or messing with. Whether that is really true, though, I do not know. There is certainly a logic to having a forum for it, since it is one of the most important, if not the most interesting, parts of the shaving process.
