Anybody else have issues with Shavemac's quality control? Look at the pics....

I received my first Shavemac today. It's a (big) model 220. I tested it and got wonderful results, but as I was shaking the excess water out, I realized that the knot looked crooked. I looked it over from every angle and, sure enough, it IS crooked - like either it wasn't trimmed symmetrically or possible it was set into the handle at an angle. I have never seen anything this bad before - or am I being too picky? Anybody else had a similar experience?

Shavemacs are in generally very very standard for a hand made product. I'v had two 24mm D01's made a year apart that were IDENTICAL. However they are fully hand made, so there will be some variance. I dont think thats too crooked, but if it bothers you it bothers you.

All brush mfgrs have quality issues due to sheer volume, but I would say shavemacs are among the best for QC

That being said the brush is fine, but my hypervigilance would be driven nuts with it

Shavemac is a very good company with high standards. Contact them and tell them you are not pleased and I'll bet they will send you another brush no questions asked. If you don't, that brush will drive you crazy!

I see it in the first picture, its tilted to the right hand side for sure....Id send it back, if they cant mount it straighter than that, they dont deserve the $100+ for it....Just my .02, and I agree, SM will probably send you one no questions asked.

Yes, my OCD would be set off by that angled setting every time I used the brush. I'd go insane. INSANE, I tell you! Perhaps I am already though. Ahem. Let me go take my Prozac, and I'll be right b a

I don't own any high end brushes. Call me OCD, but if any of my <$50 brushes looked like that, I would send them back.

For the price you pay for a Shavemac, you would be well in your rights to have it fixed or replaced. The knot is definitely crooked.

Shavemac makes a very solid brush and Bernd gives a lot of attention to his customers. If you don't like your brush just send him an e-mail and, I'm sure, he'll take proper care of any issues.

The knot looks great.It is the band of hair color that is asymmetrical. As a natural product the hair grows to different lengths on the animal. When a knot is made the hair is placed in a shaped box and the knot is formed from the tips back, where the band lays is determined by the animal, not the knot maker.

To be honest I think the brush is perfect the way it is.

Jim: The pics may not show it well, but the knot is definitely asymmetrical. On the other hand, I just realized that my Thater 4125/3 2-band is also asymmetrical - and it's one of my favorite brushes. I like the Shavemac so much in every other respect that I could probably live with this one despite its flaws.

If you want to gaze wistfully at your brush and admire it's symmetry (apparently we judge people's attractiveness primarily based on symmetry) then returning it is the correct choice. Me personally, I prefer function to appearance with brushes, and I seriously doubt there is any performance problem with the brush. I wouldn't waste the time it would take to get a replacement myself. Brushes vary a lot. But if it bothers you, go for it.
