    Default Acquisitions for August 2012

Get the ball rolling here. Just got a nice 40s style Rocket. Love the English TTO razors. They're built solid.

These pics are from the seller. It arrived to day and I've given a quick clean but no more pics yet.

Enjoy one of the most beautiful razors Gillette ever made in my view. It is a NEW Improved DeLuxe according to this catalogue advertisement for it.

Hmmm, using CPI indexation $US75 in 1930 = $US1,031.25 now. Even considering I only got the razor it was a good deal :)

BTW - I have the BEST wife in the world. After we were talking about this one I confessed the price of the bottom dial I recently purchased. While shocked she did understand that it was a good deal when I showed her the one that sold for $1125 recently.

Question is, how much did you pay if you want to say ?

The brush is a bit knackered. I think that's going to be the first reknot I do.

Got it from Ebay for $99 shipped. Sure it's got a nice box, but I'd never have bid as much as I did ($255) if this wasn't on my list of must haves...
    Why was it?

1910, the year my house was built.

I've only got a few left on my list now!

    Edit:
I also picked this up, paid a bit too much for it, but only because I discovered that I had a 1907 Single ring that was homeless. Case leather is in better condition than I thought it was, but it will require some repairs.

Pre-cleaning picture... the red tip is a C-1, and shows some brassing and paint loss. The brush appears to be a Kent badger ca. 1954-1968, if my research is correct. It will be interesting to see if the hair can be reconditioned, or if it will be a reknot.

Edit: After two hour-long conditioner soaks for the Kent, the hairs stopped breaking off. For the red-tip, dishsoap soak and then a shot of scrubbing bubbles did a nice job. The yellow cast to the handle turned out to be some shellac-like gunk, not brassing. There is still plenty of brassing under the head, though, and I see a few fleabites on the handle.

So this Brush on the 'bay went unpayed for, and I got a second chance offer from the seller (which I haggled way way way down). After a little clean up, this is what it looks like. It reads "10 Best Badger Simpson" on the front and "....allfield &company - The store for men" in back.

Here you are my last acquisitions, gentlemen!

    - a Crowe balm (a LEA clone really, is made by Lascaray as well and costs even cheaper in local supermarkets: only 1,99 euros!)
    - a bakelite slant from a friend's gift! He bought one of the lasts two-packs (one boxed) and consequently he gave me the unboxed one, hehe. No problem, as I'm planning to use it like my next travel razor!

    Cheers!
Please, excuse my written English, I'm Spanish and still learning... ;-)

Default Today was a very good day...

First: A nice English aluminum handle tech. The cap is not in the best of shape, I couldn't get the picture to upload.Click image for larger version.

Second: A nearly perfect B2 Red Tip. That isn't brassing on the door, it is a reflection off the cork I propped it on. There is a tiny spot on the door and in the blade tray. The red paint however is flawless.

Look at that. A 1937 Sheraton. My father's birth year. Color me happy!!

The silo doors are completely brassed, but it operates perfectly and all the teeth are straight. I can't wait to try it out.
