Default Truefitt gets added to the Tall Boys

So I have a small bevy of tall brushes I move out of the rotation during the summer. I really prefer these during the winter months when I whipping up lusciously warm lather in my scuttle. I had avoided the Truefitt & Hill brushes because with their "Classic" handle in large I was worried about floppiness. It has a fan shaped knot and is spec'd at 26-54 with a 70 mm handle (the actual knot you see here is 26.5 and other dimensions are true). They come in 4-grades of hair; Pure, Best, Super & Silvertip. This brush is Silvertip. If you get their Style 1 handle the loft is 2 mm shorter and you save $10.00. As most of you know, these brushes are reportedly made by the Rooney elves (and after using it and comparing it to my Rooney brushes, I have no reason to doubt that origin). So I soaked the brush & did a test lather. Thoroughly rinsed it and then created a fresh MdC face lather. Not floppy at all, in fact, better backbone than my Thater 2-bands or the Simpson GYLE M7. Super soft tips with no scritch and very densely packed. This is really a superb brush and with T&H's 15% B&B discount, it costs $127.00 (delivered!). For those who prefer a shorter 50 mm handle the damage is just $118.00 and materially less if you get one of the smaller knots. T&H throws in a great assortment of sample products including pre-shave oil, shaving cream & after-shave balm.

I have the Style 3, medium knot (24/48mm). A classy brush with very soft tips. I don't think it has as much backbone though. So while I like its softness I see myself reaching for the Thaeter 3 band ore often as it has more backbone due to the bulb shape. YMMV

That is a beautiful brush. I have a T&H medium Classic silvertip with an Ivory Horn handle that is one of my favorites. I hope that you enjoy your new brush.

Great brush Mark, the fan shape of that knot looks perfect, at least from my perspective/preferences. Enjoy that beaut!

    Mark,
How do you even choose which brush at shave time? It's hard enough for me with my modest collection, but don't know what I'd do with all those. Do you make the choice based on soap selection? Temperature? Current face sensitivity? Humidity? Do the brushes take a number like in a lottery? Or is this choice the result of some complex computer modeling?

Finally, what's the longest you've ever been monogamous with a brush?

Wow. That's all I need. Another brush to enable the SBAD. Enjoy the brush. It's beautiful.

Looking good! I agree that they T&H does have decent backbone. More than the Thater 2-band fan that I had.

Regarding monogamy, I find the prospect somewhat unnatural. I only had one brush through high school & college. Since then, not so much. I travel a fair amount and when on the road I stick to my Simpson Major (although I have to say their Classic 2-band has been giving me come-hither looks of late).

I make up a 10-day rotation ahead of time so don't have to think about it daily. There are about 5-brushes that are always included (Rooney XL, Thater 3-band bulb, M&F 2-band Chubby, Shavemac 3-band D01 and Simpson T3 2-band) and another 5 that are selected with no rhyme or reason whatsoever. I do try to have markedly different characteristics day to day with not only the brush but also the razor & soap or cream. Sometimes that leads to a "oh honey why have I been neglecting you" moment or "how many times do I need to use this POS before I just toss it" decision. I've made enough purchase mistakes that you'd think that the ghost of Edward John Smith was whispering advice in my ear.

I won't pester too much more, but concerning the ones that are always in the rotation, is there a common, unifying feature or is it the inverse? That the five of them represent the complete spectrum of brushy pleasure and to drop one would be to leave some quality out that fully satisfies? Does the question make sense?

Yes, I'm in the minority that just hates scritch, everything else is negotiable. Other than that, each of the five is quite different from the others

I'm curious abiut how the hair in the T&H brushes and the Rooneys compares to what looks like an M&F super in your photo.
