Default The Muhle R41 cuts too close!

I can't convince myself to shave 24 hours after using it! The stubble barely exists!

I also learned what the meaning of no pressure meant in three stages.
    1. Using a DE razor (Merkur 180 with Shark SS blade) instead of a cartridge razor
    2. Using a Personna Lab blade in the Merkur 180
    3. Using a Personna Lab blade in the Muhle R41!

Each of these combinations have presented their own meaning of what no pressure means. At first, no pressure meant not as much pressure as a cartridge. Then, the Personna blade gave me quite a few weepers and small nicks with the 180. Now, I am not even sure the blade is on my face! I just hear the hairs getting cut and the smooth feeling afterwards.

I also think after using the razor/blade combo for a few shaves, I benefit most from a single ATG pass plus a bit of buffing. It leaves me with a DFS and the last couple times did not have any blood. This is a nice, very quick shave for the mornings that I am running late, but I can still enjoy a nice lather and slow shaving routine over the weekends.

The R41 takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do the shaves are really great.

The R41 is unrealistic as a daily shaver if you shave at least 4 times per week.

I have been looking for an OC for a while, but am nervous to purchase a R41. I have a tough beard and sensitive skin... Thoughts?

The current model R41 (2011 model) is a modified comb/bar razor not an open comb.

    I've thought it was a toothed-comb razor?

I think it's wonderful. I still need to focus my shaving to slowing down a bit and making sure my lather is nice and wet or else I'll get some redness, but other than that, it almost seems like the easiest razor to use. I have no problems doing too many passes or anything because I can still do a full three-pass shave if I wanted. I just don't need to anymore with my current routine.

It's interesting also how the lather just seems to deposit itself on the underside of the head, which acts much like a straight compared to my 180.

    * You may want to start with a vintage Gillette New Long Comb and work your way to the R41, but if you are brave, then go for it. Good luck.

It is definitely a unique razor and with a sharp blade, I can't imaging anything that would shave closer. I prefer to use mine only for special occasions or on a Monday morning when I've skipped shaving for 1-2 days. I can't use it more than 2 days in a row no matter how delicately I shave or my skin will start to get raw. I is therefore strictly reserved for the special situations highlighted above.

I picked my R41 up from the PO last night.

Shaved using a Lord Super Chrome as that was the first blade I enjoyed once I'd ditched the Derbys so thought a good place to celebrate a month DE shaving with a new razor and the first blade I was happy with.

Got to say it wasn't smooth as my EJ DE86 and I'm quite glad it wasn't my first purchase if I'm honest. however the shave went very well, no cuts and it was super smooth, it's 8:45 a.m. here in the UK and I shaved last night about 10 and there's barely any stubble.

There's no doubt you have to be careful and take your time, but I enjoyed the shave. Not sure I'll use it tonight. I agree with an earlier comment in that it seems a little overkill for my beard to use it every day.

It's well worth a purchase and if a newbie like myself can use it without ripping his face off then there's nothing to fear

    I beg to differ, respectfully.
    As always, YMMV.

As a rule, I shave everyday and the R41 is usually my tool of choice.
    No problem whatsoever.

+1. It is my current "learn to shave razor." I too have tough hair and sensitive skin, and the R41 with a feather seems like a real winner to me so far.

After alum and witch hazel, I have no redness or irritation leftover, so I imagine using it every day would be okay... If I could only scare the whiskers to come back out!

This is the case for me, too. Ideally I should skip a day in between uses of the R41, but not always do-able. I 'downgrade' to my Futur on the in-between days.
