    Default Looking for OC recommendations

Hello everyone, just used my first OC and loved. Anyway, it was a Merkur 15c (hated the flimsy handle so I put a bulldog on it and it made a huge difference). My other razors in rotations are the EJ DE89 and Gillette Fatboy '60 (have some others but I purchased for just collecting). I really like the EJ but they don't have an open comb (as far as I know). My question is, what would be another good open comb to buy (I like the mildness of the merkur, but wouldn't mind getting a little more aggressive). Is the Muhle R41 a good next purchase? The Tradere OC? Would love to hear from you guys that use OC's regularly. Thanks in advance!!

While it may not be in the direction you're looking, I'd suggest a couple vintage gillettes: a bar-handled New and the old type. Both can be acquired cheaply.

Tradere is more aggressive than your merkur but way less aggressive than the 41

Thanks! OK, now I'm afraid of the 41...maybe I'll get my technique down better before I try it.

You could always buy a Fatip razor!Just read around a bit here at B&B and you can see a lot of people liking those.
I have one myself and its looks great and will probably give me a fantastic shave the day i got the courage to use it. Still known to be less agressive than a R41 though.

Btw: with the risk of sounding like a winded up record. Buy a NEW oc as already mentioned! Best gillette razor i have then it comes to performance and comfort. And one of the most good looking to.

I would suggest an Old Type or a New long comb. On second thought, any OC Gillette will do you right.

Gillette Old and the New Long Comb are the ticket. You can buy both - depending upon condition - for $30 to $50 for the pair. You'll never lose money on them - don't worry about that - they sell fairly quick. Between the two of them, your OC urges will be quenched for a while...

Awesome, that seems to be the theme and what I was looking for. The postman is going to continue laughing at me for bringing packages to my door daily....

The R41 was my first comb razor, and it turned out to be a RAD killer for me. It took me a couple of shaves to realize that when people said "no pressure" they meant "NO", "NONE", "ZERO". You can hear it cutting which is helpful, but it really is an efficient razor. It is like shaving with a straight without the longer blade edge or awkward handling, etc.

I feel like I actually learned how to shave with a better technique that was not limited to the R41. I used my EJ Barley Chrome and even old SuperSpeed and I was able to get better results shaving with the improved technique I mastered on the R41.

The R41 is great, and not to be feared. Just go with a very light touch, just let the razor sit on your face with no pressure. Once you get the hang of it the shaves are fantastic.

Also the Merkur HD OC is a nice razor. Merkur has stopped production on this one, but some of the vendors here at B&B still have it available. The Merkur 1904 OC is a nice shaving mild razor.
