I've got a cat named Beefeater and a dog named Beefeater, and two goldfish called Beefeater and Beefeater. There's Beefeater my hamster and Beefeater my horse, and my piglet, known as Beefeater of course.

I like my TWSBI 540, I bought it when they first came out from Brian over at Gouletpens and it has never failed me. It's a smooth writer and it holds a lot of ink. It lives on my desk and I reach for it all the time. I'm not sure it would really be a step up from a Safari but if you want to stay in the 50 buck range I don't think you will be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you want to get up around the 100 buck range lots of other makes are drool worthy. One thing for sure there is lots of good info here.
How are you fixed for blades?
Of my modern pens, I like my Pelikans a lot. an M200 or M215 is a nice medium sized pen that tend to write pretty well. Right now I am waiting on my M200 to come back from Germany, the M215 is on my dresser waiting on Monday morning.
I didn't surrender, they made my horse surrender though.

*Thanks for the tip.
* i was thinking of about $100 max and not a very large pen as i have small hands. The Lamys are a decent, every day pen, but i was curious to try something smoother and better quality nib.
Thanks. Are you a fellow Vancouverite?

You can get a Pilot 78g, including shipping, for $10 off e-bay. Seriously, do it.
A restored vintage Parker 51 can be had for less than the balance of your budget. (The mintier-than-mint ones and the highly collectable ones cost a lot more, but if you just want a workhorse ...)
Or, I'd say look at Japanese pens ... a mid-range Sailor (Procolour, Regulus, &c) can likely be had for your price range.
... oh, and no, I'm not from the Vancouver area ... I just drive through every once in a blue moon ... just frequently enough for the traffic to remind me why I'm glad I don't live there.![]()

Okay, Todd has M200s for $84. Act now, they will not last, and the next batch from Pelikan will be much higher priced. If I could, I would be all over the green one

Latakia- it's what's for dinner.
Uh....well.... ok you busted me.
You've seen the Pelikan 200 in the acquisition thread, but I also came across a nice Waterman Expert II for $45 (supposed to be new and unused but we'll see when it gets here).
Other than that, nothing else.
Hey, they were good deals ya know... the kind I couldn't pass up!
