    Default Total Newb Here

Hi folks. Randy from Long Island checking in. Have never been much of a shaver and when I do it's always been with regular disposables. Really looking forward to learning to shave correctly and with the right tools.

Welcome Randy. As others have said, dump your old disposables and crap creams. Take some time, learn about proper technique and tools and START ENJOYING YOUR SHAVE!!! Feel free to ask questions, we are very friendly.

I started quite recently on a wilkinson classic (dirt cheap), it was very good experience, I have since moved to EJ DE89 which i love, still getting to grips with it thought, so i go back to my wilks all the time. I'm well impressed with it. looks cool and tactical in black too. : p

My suggestions on shaving gear for you:

    1) Razor - Merkur HD
    2) Soap - Mike's Natural Soaps (home made in Brooklyn!)
    3) Blades - Sampler pack that includes Feather, Astra, Gillette
    4) Witch Hazel (from your local health store)
    5) Brush - Choose a Badger Hair brush
    6) Aftershave - Anything that strikes your fancy

Wait for the order to come and enjoy your new level of shaves!

Welcome Randy, all you need besides a starter kit is the B&B and youtube. Good luck!

As a recent Newb, let me expand his list a little:
    3) great if the sample pack also has the personna med preps in it as well. I like the assortments at bullgoose personally, though I have bought 4 assortment packs.
    4) lucky tiger after shave toner. Has Witch Hazel in it, and a pleasant orange scent. Not full of nasty chemicals. Goes great with Mike's Natural Orange, Ceder and Black Pepper soap.
    5) Rooney 3/1 silvertip if not price prohibitive. Thater 4125/1 in 2-band silver tip if not price prohibitive. Both of these lather Mke's soaps beautifully, and are true luxury brushes.
    6) I like the Queen Charlotte Soaps after shave balms. They seem expensive but go a long way. Also, no nasty chemicals. I love the Vostok. Get the scent that appeals to you.

If you don't mind the chemical stuff, I think the prorasso is a great starter cream. Super easy to lather and provides a good shave. The mike's soaps are truly things of joy though.
