    Default The Three Amigos

    So, coming down from my first bout of RAD, these three are my favorites:

    -F2 Fatboy (GREAT shape; no brassing, numbers are good, works great, clean as a whistle....$29 at a junk shop)
    -Weber ARC w/ Bulldog Handle
    -Gillette Tech head on an iKon bulldog (I don't know the date of the Tech...it came off a ball-end. Can anyone point me to that handy reference chart? I can't seem to find it)

    I'm pretty content with just these....I think I'll let everything else go other than the Techs (I'm afraid I may end up collecting techs....It could be worse I guess)

    You can find the Gillette dating (code) chart on the wiki

    http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/US_Gi...ng_Information

    If your Tech does not have a date code it is early and should have diamond shaped lather relief cuts.

    I was under the impression Techs didn't have date codes (I can't find one anywhere on this one or my other two...and this one doesn't have diamond cuts). However, clicking around there in the wiki I finally found what I was looking for (must have overlooked it last time. Oops): http://www.mr-razor.com/ebay/1938-19...on%20klein.jpg

    Looks like a 1939-1979 is as good as I get for now until I can find out more.

    I just got my weber arc in the mail last week and am in love with it. My only major suggestion as a must razor is the FaTip. I am currently completely happy with my weber and FaTip

    My techs have date codes. Yours may not be US made. Not sure if the Brit and GWN (great white north) ones had date codes.

    US-made Techs produced from 1939 to about 1946 had a sort of triangular (tri-oval?) relief slot, and no date code. They generally came with either fat bar or bakelite handles. From 1946 to about 1950, they also had no date codes, but the relief slot was changed to a rectangle with rounded corners. About 1950, the word "PACKAGE" inside the base plate indentation was abbreviated to "PKG", and in 1951 date codes were introduced and appeared on the upper corners of the base plate, with the year letter code "W" on the left side and a number (1-4) to indicate the quarter on the right side. Most post-war Techs came with the small-ball handle, but not all.

    Nice lineup!

    I keep trying to find one of those "junk shops" around here, but there don't seem to be any. Or maybe I'm not looking in the right places. The antique shops around here want ridiculous prices for the few DE razors they have.

    Yeah, I usually don't go to them but The GF's aunt had a stall in one and we brought her lunch. I looked around while they were talking and just happened upon that beauty. I was pretty darn excited considering I didn't find anything good after hitting up every antique store, flea market, etc all along the Oregon coast when I was back home visiting family in June.

    No, 1950 . . . in '46-'49 razors the word "PACKAGE" was spelled out in the center diamond. Your razor says "PAT NO. ON PKG." making it ~1950, since you do not have a date code on the bottom.

    Either way, it sure looks nice with that handle!! Congrats!!

    Luckily, I just so happen to have a scale handy....

    Tech w/ iKon = 95 grams
    Weber = 100 grams
    Fatboy = 79 grams

    All weights without blades

    *Edit*

    The Tech & iKon combo is a real winner IMO - The tech has always been a great shave, and the weight and grip of the bulldog adds just so much control over the slim and nimble little tech head. I've been finding myself doing the heavy lifting with the weber and any sensitive work with the tech (The fatboy sits on the rack and looks sexy until I pull it out for a special occasion).

    Those are beautiful. I'd be afraid to shave with 'em.
