Thanks to everyone for all your tips and suggestions! Here is a photo of my first batch of raspberry infused vodka in tribute to my grandfather, Toivo Silvennoinen. My grandfather turned me on to raspberry infused vodka in 1975 when I was 15 and he was 79. The old sailor/carpenter lived to be 86 and this was his secret to longevity. Forget diet and exercise - just add ice! He was a master carpenter and sailed for the Merchant Marines 3 months each year for over 40 years.

    Ajax:

Your infusion looks excellent, and I bet it tastes even better!

What a fine tribute to your grandfather. He sounds like a very wise man. I think "...just add ice" is the most excellent motto I've heard in recent history.

I wish you much success as you experiment with more infusions.

I'm not a vodka drinker but the limoncello idea seems fun and easy enough. I know it's not vodka but I liked the tea infusion idea, too. I had this cocktail with an Earl Grey infused gin and I've been thinking about making some myself. Thanks for the ideas on infusion times! You have saved me disappointment.

So it's almost the end of raspberry season. I hit the local Farmer's Market today, and started two more batches. Since we all love pics here, this is a shot of my infusions after 12 hours. I went a bit crazy and used two pints of raspberries for each, and split a 1.75 liter bottle of vodka between the two jars:

I have gotten into infusing various liquors, which I post about on my blog: http://boozefusion.blogspot.com/. I have made limoncello, and I recently started a "dirty vodka" infusion for making dirty vodka martinis. Here's a pic:
