Default LBJ was a fan of Trumpers.

The wife and I regularly ride ( road bicycle) LBJ Ranch and the surrounding county roads. Well today we decided to tour the ranch house. During the tour, I happened to take notice of LBJ's shaving gear while passing his bathroom. Although he appeared to be an electric user, he did have an ample selection of magnum sized Trumpers after shaves. I know one was extract of limes, but I don't recall what the others were. Mind you, Texas Parks and Wildlife runs the tours and I am sure they "set" the stage so to speak as far as decorating the house. The items inside did belong to the ex pres and Lady Bird so I am sure they were actually used by him. I just thought I would share it with you all. Sorry for no pics, there is no photography permitted inside the ranch house.

Note: despite being a rancher of sorts, he was a man who enjoyed the finer things in life. Good shaving software, Rolex watches and fine cars. Not to mention the huge ranch and private runway to access the house easily while acting as president. For those unfamiliar with him, he actually spent a large chunk of his presidency working out of the "Texas White House", he really loved being in the Texas hill country, as do we!

    LBJ. Lyndon....oh, never mind!

Anyway, cool story, cessnabird. I love that part of Texas. I'd like to take a tour of that myself. I'm planning a trip to New Braunfels in September. Maybe then.

Is the bedroom where he died open yet? They were working on getting it ready the last time we were there along with other rooms. I particularly like the Lincoln with mud tires on the rear so he could go drive around the ranch off road. I met a Secret Service agent once who was stationed in Austin during LBJ's time in office. He told me that they would go work at the ranch when LBJ threw parties/BBQs. He said he was standing somewhere away from the party but in view when all of the sudden LBJ walked up to him and put his arm around his shoulder and they started walking. He said LBJ stopped at a large bush, whipped it out, and took a leak and never took his arm from around the Agent's shoulder. He said it looked like they were just talking with their backs to the crowd. Just a good old boy.

Steve, that's a great story! I can't imagine being the agent and keeping a straight face during the "evacuation". Yes, the bedroom is open for display now. It's a pretty cool tour.

LBJ is Lyndon Baines Johnson the 36th President of the United States. He was from Texas and lived on a large ranch that many people still visit, hence cessnabird's story. Perhaps you should read posts before you comment on them, but you did make me laugh.

Jeremy, you know that Robert Caro has recently released the 4th volume of his masterful biography of LBJ. These books are absolutely spellbinding and a must read for anyone interested in 20th Century American history. Caro is a fabulous writer and it helps that LBJ was a fascinating, complex figure who had a profound effect on our post-war policies. I found the 3rd volume, that focused on his Senate career, to be the most illuminating with regards to his political acumen. Really worth a read.

I have read the volumes 1,2 and 3 and really enjoyed them. I didn't know Volume 4 had been released, I am going to have to buy this one soon! I agree with your statement about Caro, he really makes LBJ come alive as opposed to dry facts.

The guy was good ole' boy and yes, he knew what he liked. Here's a hilarious tape of LBJ calling Joe Haggar, his tailor, for specifications: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zNMo8kl7Ac

There are some interesting presidential ties to wet shaving products

George Washington's favorite cologne was Caswell-Massey #6. He liked it so much he gave it as a gift to Lafayette. Lafayette liked it so much that when he revisited the US in 1826 he sent back barrels of it to France so he would not be without it.

The real comedy starts at 3:00 and an uncouth belch at about 4:15.
The back and forth is pretty funny. Haggar asks,"Where do you want them sent?" and LBJ nonchalantly says, "White House." Notice that LBJ says he sure would be "grateful" but no talk of a charge is ever discussed.

That was very entertaining, thanks for sharing that clip. He has no shame talking about nut sacks and bung holes. Too funny!

Haha, I don't know what to say about that. A custom title would be great of course, but I wonder how that one would turn out. Hmmm...
