    Default Myrtle Beach hot spots?

My wife and i are going to Myrtle Beach on Sunday and staying for three or four days with the inlaws and was wondering if any of you have been there and if you had any suggestion on what to do and where to eat?

The Boardwalk has a bunch of stuff to do and places to eat... If you are in to fine dinning, you MUST eat at New York Prime!

For a awesome seafood buffet, try Captain George's. For a awesome steak try Cagneys, or Chucks steakhouse.

There's a reason they call Myrtle Beach "The Redneck Riviera"...

There are a zillion restaurants lined up on the main highway (hwy 17), especially if you are interested in seafood, and all you can eat buffets. Most of it is not fine dining and it can be hit or miss, so proceed with some caution. There are many good golf courses and lots of sun. A good amount of shopping and small amusements.
Ripley's Aquarium is a nice attraction, and there is an amusement park not too far away from it.

Or...you can drive an hour North up to NC and chose from 2 dozen Calabash-style seafood joints.

Look up a local spot called Mr. Fish. It is incredible. The best was Biminis Oyster Bar and Cafe. The Steam Pot is best.
We visited over the 4th of July.

It's true, there are just about as many seafood restaurants in Myrtle Beach as there are plastic surgeons in California. But, if you want to avoid the touristy style restaurants and eat where the locals eat, head to Murrells Inlet. It's where I grew up and home to some gems, as far as restaurants are concerned. From Myrtle Beach you are going to head south on Hwy 17 ((bypass) to avoid traffic), pass Surfside Beach, and Garden City. Once you get to Murrells Inlet 17 splits again, this time you want to be on the business side. Check out Nance's, ***Lee's Inlet Kitchen***(This place is a legend for their food). Creek Rats has live music on some nights and there is a really nice "Creek-walk" that is romantic at sunset. Ok....so we covered food. Check out "Broadway at the Beach", lots of little shops and some restaurants, laser shows on Tuesday nights??? (Can't remember what day), but fun for hours. There are water-parks and go-kart attractions around there too. Oh yeah...there is always the beach. If you're looking to be a little more secluded, go down to Litchfield beach or Huntington beach state park. There is a huge mall just north of the Airport. And if you golf, you'll be in heaven. There's like a million golf courses along the Grand Strand. Also in Myrtle Beach, if you are looking for shows, there is Medieval Times, The Carolina Opry, The Alabama Theater, Dixie Stampede. Gotta head out, but I hope this helps.

Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens which is directly across the road from the entrance. Two huge thumbs up for both. Definitely two excellent places to decompress!

Huntington Beach also has a gator preserve!

Broadway on the beach has some decent shops and resturants to hit. Can be pretty crowded.

Another suggestion is to drive south 30 minutes to Pawleys Island (Georgetown County). Less frenetic.

I was going to suggest this too. A college friend has a beach house on Pawleys. Very relaxing place to be.

I second the recommendation to check out Murrell's Inlet. Lee's is my favorite there. I've tried quite a few of the seafood buffets, and my favorite is Seafarer. The crab legs are great, and they serve most everything broiled, as well as fried. I much prefer a raw bar and broiled seafood, and they do both well. They are a little more expensive, but I've never failed to get my money's worth.

Thanks for all the advice guys i had a blast. Myrtle Beach reminded me of Ocean City Md. Ended up eating to a few of the huge seafood buffets (Benjamins Calabash, and some other one) Benjamin's was delicious. Someone suggested Capt George's which is an outstanding seafood buffet (there's one in Va Beach i go to) If you go hungry in Myrtle it's your own fault. As far as activities we had our in-laws and 8 year old niece with us most of the time and couldn't really check out the "night" life whice was fine with me. I still had a great time with parasailing, Ripley's aquarium, haunted houses, Skywheel, etc. we tried to go to Margaritaville but there was a 2 1/2 hour wait for parties over 4 so we ended up to Hard Rock Cafe. I checked out the reviews for this place earlier on Tripadvisor.com and didn't get a good vibe about this place but we were hungry and it was close so we took a chance. I wish we hadn't. Every review about that place was right. The food wasn't awful but i like to stay away from places were the waiter fist bumps each member of the table and they play YMCA which all the staff proceeds to jump up on the nearest wall and does the whole YMCA dance. Along with every drunk patron. My father in law is a preacher so it was a joy to see the look on his face when that started good times! Again guys thanks for the help.
