    Default Help!

I got this razor in that I pifed a honing. Now I have don well over 200 razors and never had this problem. I've been trying to get this bevel set, trying to get it to shave arm hair, and no matter what it WILL NOT shave arm hair.

It is a restore that has been polished to a mirror finish. First it had a serious frown which I took out. Went to a dmt 325 with the edge sharpied. Got that looking good then went to the Chosera 1K. Here is where I'm stuck. Doing what I've done before and it will not shave arm hair no matter how long I stay on the 1K.

What the hell is going on here? Any ideas? I'm kind of wondering if the temper got screwed up from the polishing.

BTW, when trying to shave arm hair the edge just feels smooth. I'm baffled.

I've struck this problem before. And yes, in those case it turned out to be a screwed up temper from power tools being used to restore.

If you had honed just a few razors, well anything might be the cause. After 200 razors, I agree that it is likely to be the metal at fault. Temper, maybe. Just as often, I find that tunneling rust can be the problem. Especially with polished razors, the tunneling rust can be somewhat masked. (Look for very tiny holes in the polished surface.)

Well... this is stretching a lot but I figure you are looking for outside chances.

Go back to the 325. I can get arm hair to snag on a 325 with no problem. On a really hard razor, if I don't have it 'butcher knife' sharp (Larry taught me that) before I start polishing, it sometimes will refuse to bend to my will.

    Good luck with the sucker.

I got it to finally take an edge. It took some tape on the spine before it wouldn't "skate"on the hone. Now on to some lapping film with this rascal
