Default help choosing a winter scent

so, i have finally started moving from the sampling phase into the buying bottles phase of cologne collecting. most of my favorites so far are defintely summer or warm weather scents. since winter is fast approaching i am resolute in buying for the season but i am at a bit of a loss as to what to choose.

i have a 10ml decant of creeds vintage tabarome which is really nice. i feel like i should have a glass of scotch and a cigar sitting in an over sized leather club chair in a wood lined den next to a large fireplace. trully wonderful. if i could find a full bottle of it this would be my next buy- but that isnt the case.

so i think i would like a woody, musky, leather scent for these cold days ahead.

    the list:
-knize 10--havent tried it yet but it sounds in the ballpark
-gft spanish leather--havent tried it yet but it sounds in the ballpark
-gft eucris--havent tried it yet but it sounds in the ballpark

has anyone tried vintage tabarome? any suggestions on what comes close? what are your favorite winter scents?

    cheers,
    ryan

L'Occitane Eau de Vetyver comes to mind.

Sounds like what you need to do is try the sampling all over again in the colder weather. Wearing Eucris today - it is nice.

I would certainly give Eucris and Knize 10 high marks for winter. I also like Blenheim Bouquet and Etro Vetiver -- it's a nice earthy redition IMO. If you are near a C.O. Bigelow, they have Etro testers.

    thanks guys!

i do really need to try more of the cold weather scents. i think might grab a bottle of knize 10 to start with. blenheim is way up on the list also but i think of it more as a warmer weather scent. i have been meaning to visit the l'occitane store in portland to try out some of there scents. i really like the couple of vetiver samples that i have (creed's original vetiver and floris vetiver and have tried guerlain's) but still need to try a few more before making a final decision.

+10 for the Knize 10, IMHO.

the IMHO is, of course, key. You must sample. Oh, I'd toss Penhaligon's Opus 1870 into the mix ...

My personal favorites for this time of year are T&H Spanish Leather and Tam Dao. Both are warm fragrances, with T&H Spanish Leather being on the musky leather side, while Tam Dao is unmistakably woody. To each his own - just my $0.02, based on what I've sampled thus far.

I've yet to try Knize 10, but should it find it's way into the B&B Decant Club, it will be high on my list to try.

My recommendation would be for the Knize Forest. Also Guerlain Heritage, Dunhill Edition, and Caron Yatagan.

I just got some Vintage Tabarome and wow, it just reeks of "elegant, refined, and mature". Winston Churchill's face should be on the bottle.

Anyway, as for more dark, wintertime colognes, I suggest you check out:

Paul Smith London - A very cozy and boozy blend of woods and spices. Incredibly elegant and almost regal. Makes me want to sit in a crushed velvet upholstered chair in a smoking jacket and puff on a pipe and read.
Ungaro II (if you can find it)
Michael Kors (if you can find it)
Creed's Cuir de Russie - This one is hit or miss with most people...it was made for Errol Flynn...I can't tell if I like it or not...smokey, woody, and leathery, but it's got a little something I can't quite place.
Musc Ravageur - One of my all time favorites.

+1 for Guerlain Vetiver and Caron Yatagan -- I wear both of them regularly.

Another scent I can heartily recommend is Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Route du Vetiver... you'll feel the earth move.

I suggest Guerlain Heritage or Eucris. I think the Eucris is closer to Tabarome as Heritage is more sweet, but still very nice.

I'd go with Knize Ten. Great stuff. Good choice for the winter as its warm, leathery, spicy. Its a very old world scent that goes nice with your overcoat, some brandy, and a very Dickensian Christmas.

For what it's worth, echoing the praise for Havana Reserva and T&H Spanish Leather as cool weather fragrances.

Floris Santal seems like it would be a good fit as well.

C&E Sandalwood instantly comes to mind.
