I also take it as a jab at how ridiculously complicated food has become- starting in restaurants but with more TV exposure, moving into the home. More does not equal better.

I think its always been complicated. Its just more accessible to people now. Another thing for people to make themselves feel "high end". I still welcome more restaurants in the "French Laundry" style, but Jim Bob's BBQ and greasy spoons always have their place : )
