I saw this thread and although I don't smoke, I do have a lighter I like a lot and I'm sure it would light a cigar with ease. I'm pretty into all things 'outdoors/backpacking/survival/adventure' and I like quality, well-built gear of all types, so this is the lighter I ended up with. A Brunton 'Helios' Storm-proof lighter. It's always in my pack along with a water-proof container of water-proof matches for back-up. (Remember-"2 is 1 and 1 is none!!") It's never failed me and is re-fillable with the standard canisters. It has a flame adjustment lever on the bottom underneath the screw-off cover (which is also where the re-fill port is) It sounds like a little blow-torch when lit! The only time it failed me was my own fault-----I had forgotton to turn up the flame adjust lever after storage. I made the lanyard-----I'm into knots/ropework stuff too. I keep it clipped to something near the top of my pack for easy access in all conditions without having to dig around or worry about it falling out, etc.

So the little metal sleeve in my thunderbird just dissappeared on me, i havent dropped or mistreated this thing it has been in my pocket only a few times, and when i went to take it apart to see what was going out the spring and bottom piece shot out like a bat out of you know where,... the thing after so little time is now no good, it does have a warranty on it but its a mail in, with websites these days wish they would make it easier specially since mailing from canada will cost me about half of what its worth, not sure its worth a second chance but ill keep you up to date

You mean the keeper for the flint? That would be disheartening.

It started at the little sleeve that keeps the flint in place against the striking wheel then the place keeper with the spring shot out while I went to investigate I'll probably mail it in though see how itsvheld together when I get it back but if it were to happen again would be same price as a new one

Anyone ever take a butane apart to fix it. I'm sure this is cheap but I've had it a long time

Where did you get the Thunderbird insert? I've been looking online for someone to sell me but it can't cross the border for some reason.....

Two of my musical lighters. The black one(Canary) has never been fueled and the wick is still white. I love these things.
