Maybe you should try becoming a Schickhead?

I am just starting SE shaving. Bought a Gem 1912 and found it a bit challenging but then preceded to get a CCS on about the third or fourth try. The very different blade angle it what literally "catches me". I go on auto-pilot and start a stroke with a DE angle. I find this happens in the tight, short strokes around my lips, and under my nose.

The blade held out but after 7 shaves I switched blades. Well this last blade hasn't worked well for me at all! I thought maybe it was a just a rough first try but after 3 not so fun shaves I have given up on that blade. Hopefully the next blade will be better.

When used correctly the 1914 ER is an excellent razor. The effective shaving angle of these razors runs higher than a cartridge and does take some getting used to - but once over the hurdle of unfamiliarity, it provides terrific shaves. It would be a shame to dismiss it too quickly.

A double check on the blades being used might be worthwhile however.

I have found that for some reason I need to use shorter strokes with the 1914 than with other SEs, or I will get some irritation. I wont attempt to explain why. Also, I have to be very aware and concentrating on using ZERO pressure. With 1912s, Damaskeenes, MMs, well heck just about any other SE I can get away with a little pressure and get the BBS Im looking for. But not with my early 1914. She can bite if I dont give her a little respect. I use the 1914 on days when I am completely awake and alert before shaving, and take my time using lather that is a bit on the wet side. For my face doing it this way and being patient usually results in a shave that is second to none. Always a coated pella blade.

I found the 1914 Ever Ready to be a nasty little bitch. The 1912 Gem is so much more forgiving.

Wierd i have Sensative and get nick amd weapers easy, but the 1914 gave me the best freakeen shave of my life, even against DE Razors, and the Shave was BBS For like 40 hours.

I like to change around a lot between razors, and sometimes I get bitten because I forget that when I'm going from closed comb to open comb or DE to SE or whatever that I have to be a little more careful on the first shave. Sometimes, though, I think it takes my skin a shave or two to adjust even if I do everything pretty well as far as method goes. Anybody else find that to be true?

Honestly, the same bad first couple of experiences, but after watching a couple of tutorials, I found what made the difference-. When you put the blade in, center it, then lift it up and drop it so it sits a bit of an angle. That made my Featherlight go from the razor that inflicteted my worst cut to date to my number 2 fave, and then only because I have more practice with my DE.
