Default Cleaned up my 1912 Single ring.

Cleaned up my single ring. some scrubbing with soap and water, a couple hot water/tin foil/baking soda baths and a light polish. That baking soda trick is amazing!! You can almost watch it working!!

Here it is before the cleaning.

Here it is after. Cleaned up real nice!! So much nicer than I thought she would turn out. Very pleased!!

I don't think the baking soda is a trick ... i found it on some old fashioned guide to housekeeping, it seems BS is good for cleaning all sorts of things.
I make a paste about the same consistancy as toothpaste and cover the razor completely then leave it in a air tight box for a few days.

It is in the wiki and a number of threads on razor cleaning. I just heated water to boiling then lined it with foil. Added a table spoon of baking soda. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Fast and worked wonderfully well.

Is for silver razors only. The tarnish goes to the foil and away from the silver.

Works wonders. Very nice razor, but it should not be in four pieces, only three. You might want to epoxy the middle section of the handle (tube) to the bottom plate as they usually come that way, but YMMV.
    Enjoy.

Thanks much! I had figured as much but it holds well the way it is. I will most likely make the mend to it now that you have confirmed my thoughts.

As my wife said when I was giving my 1918 a hot soda bath, "It's fizzing!". It's just amazing to watch it work without removing any metal and to watch the water take a yellow tint from the dissolved sulfur. Your 1912 is definitely worth the mend.

Very nice. And I love the single rings...have four myself.

well had my first shave with my single ring this morning. Must say it is the best shave I have gotten yet wet shaving. 75% bbs and the rest a dfs (other than that damn trouble spot at my chin/jaw line). I was all ready for irritation and facial aggravation. took a nice hot shower and then a minute of the hot towel. Slid in a fresh Israeli blade, lathered up some poraso cream with my parker badger brush. I was unsure how aggressive it was to be so was very light on the stick. very minor pull. Was worried I was not shaving as no sound and no real feel of the shave. Finished up my 3 pass shave wtg/xtg/atg washed off put on some rose water witch hazel, then some lotion, a splash of The Veg and then topped off with a nice dusting of clubman talc. As stated the closest to a bbs I have come to date and by far the most comfortable shave ever!!

Great little razors, aren't they? Good job with the cleaning too!
Saving money? No, I said that was my Shaving money.

Nice, and btw I have that same trouble spot, it must be a common area of difficulty to get that bbs. It sounds like you have found your razor, what a deal, you get a great shave, don't add to the landfill, and have something that will go up in value, thats a win in my book

Completely agree! It came in a lot of razor's I found in the wild for $15. The lot of vintage brushes came from the same guy for $5. For a $20 investment I could not be more happy!!!
