Simpson 2 Band - Want a 2nd one ... which?

Alright, I have been pretty clear that Simpson 3 band brushes are not so much to my liking... I prefer their German cousins - shavemac and Thaeter. Now since I got a Duke 3 2 band with unbelievable soft tips I would want to give a 2nd Simpson 2 band a try. I want it bulb shaped, with around a 25/26mm 50-54mm knot. It cannot be overly dense and needs the same super soft tips that my Duke 3 has.

Here are the 2 band options that I saw at different vendors:

Polo 8
PJ 2 or 3 (have not actually seen a PJ 3 2 band offered anywhere)
58 or 59
Chubby 1 (probably not)
Milk Churn
Key Hole 2 (too small)

Anybody has any perspective on these brushes and how they would compare to a Duke 3 2 band (picture below)?

I would suggest a PJ3 or a Tulip3, but I don't know if you can find them at this very moment. They are both beautiful handles and in your size range.

Although those 58s and 59s are marked as "Best", they certainly look the goods and should be great brushes.

What about the density of the 59 vs 58? It has about 30% more hair in it...

That I can't help with....... I have never held one of that Series with 2-Band hair in it.

I own the exact same Duke 3 in 2-Band as you and mine is bulb shaped too and I love it for face lathering only - I have not bowl/scuttle lathered in over a month now........

I was suprised over just how soft and nice the Simpson 2-Band Super hairs are.
My next purchase will be a Chubby 2-Band Super, which I have a pending order for at Shaving.ie - reason is that as long as you get a bulb shaped 2-Band knot in a Chubby 2, it will not be that much larger than if you bought the Duke 3 in best hairs, in fact it may even be a smaller at the top, since the Best hairs on the Duke 3 tend to be fan shaped.

So I would recommend you to get a Chubby 2 in 2-Band Super, tell Chris at shaving.ie you got the brush recommended by Claus from Denmark, and he might pick you a nice brush at a fine price

Have you considered the Tulip? WCS has the T3 in 2-band for $157.50 (with the B&B discount). This is one of my favorite Simpson handles. The knot is similar in size to my 2-band PJ3.

+1 My T32B (does that work here? T3 2band...) is my all-time favorite Simpsons brush, and one of my favorite overall brushes to be sure.

I saw it. Actually the picture he shows is a 3 band. The Tulip 2 he has is a dome shape (it looks too pointy for me). So I have been hesitant so far as I do not know what the knot will look like. So looked at the new arrivals of 2 bands at superiorshave and the 58/59 look nice but at least the 58 seems not to be that different from the Duke 3 I have.

Is it a recent purchase? Do you have a a picture? I like more the bulb than the dome shape.

You could try contacting Simpsons directly and ask if they will make one to your specifications in a handle of your choice.

Thanks. I could.. I did this with my Duke 3 Super (3 band) but it did not turn out the way I wanted it... Not that it is bad but not exactly what I wanted... Maybe I should be just satisfied with the Duke 3 Two Band I have ... but then there is always SBAD....

Here's a picture of mine with the PJ3 & Duke3. Except for Jarrod I wouldn't count on the vendors' websites stock photos to be representative of the brush you'll get. If you're interested in the Tulip (or really any Simpson) I'd call/write the vendor and tell them what you're looking for and ask what their current stock looks like. Most are very helpful.
