    Default B&B Characters

I think this will be my first Barber Shop/Clown House post. The beer I'm enjoying has lowered my inhibitions to the point where I want to post in this thread in character as beloved members of our community. I'll do two, and leave the character names off for the moment.

Default Towards a New Definition of "BBS"

The acronym "BBS" is used quite often around B&B, but no measurable definition has been given. Gillette-sponsored engineers proposed the well known

which is clearly wanting in details, and which may be motivated by the particular coefficient of friction of Gillette's well-studied Fusion ProGlide Soothing Gel. I believe a more promising direction would be to consider the limitations of the Coulomb model of friction. The Coulomb approximation mathematically follows from the assumptions that surfaces are in atomically close contact only over a small fraction of their overall area, that this contact area is proportional to the normal force (until saturation, which takes place when all area is in atomic contact), and that frictional force is proportional to the applied normal force, independently of the contact area. Such reasoning aside, however, the approximation is fundamentally an empirical construction. It is a rule of thumb describing the approximate outcome of an extremely complicated physical interaction. The strength of the approximation is its simplicity and versatility – though in general the relationship between normal force and frictional force is not exactly linear (and so the frictional force is not entirely independent of the contact area of the surfaces), the Coulomb approximation is an adequate representation of friction for the analysis of many physical systems. When the surfaces are conjoined, Coulomb friction becomes a very poor approximation. In this case, the frictional force may depend strongly on the area of contact. However, despite the complexity of the fundamental physics behind friction, the relationships are accurate enough to be useful in many applications.

    Thus, we should use

where x = soapy goodness. Of course, this can only work in cases where "ATG" is easily measured, and the direction of hair growth is consistent within +/- 10 degrees. This requires empirical study, but, theoretically, hypothetically, emphatically, and barometrically, I think this is right.

    SiBurning and Jim?

    That's my guess anyway.

    Good job if so.

    If not, well...

Looks like I need to drink more beer before my next quantum physics test.

And as usual, I agree with Phil.

Those were my guesses too, Phil. So you must be right!
