Thanks for the welcome & kind words!

My second DE shave confirmed my initial impression: I'm a big fan. Still no nicks, cuts, or problems with the face or jaw, but I need to figure out the best way to tackle the neck...specifically, I'm right-handed, and need to improve either my backhand or left-handed technique to properly shave the right side of my neck (I'm thinking backhand will be my best bet). Yesterday's right-hand/right-side neck attempt resulted in a bit of carnage - the ol' styptic pencil had its work cut out for it, and the sting brought a tear to my eye I have a Bloc Osma alum block on the way, it should be arriving tomorrow, just in time for attempt #3.

telephony, thanks for the info about Merz! I didn't know there was one in Lincoln Square, I'll have to go check it out.

    Chicago:

I'm also a neighbor (I live in Old Town) and the Merz in Lincoln Square is nice. I would also recommend you visit the Truefitt & Hill location in 900 N. Michigan, since we're lucky enough to have the only location in the whole country right here in our city. They are really friendly, helpful and very generous with samples.

I'd avoid The Art of Shaving on Michigan Avenue, though. They are rude and their staff is poorly trained. I was very disappointed with my couple of visits there.
