Default DE Newb on the roll.

Hi all, After ~ a month of lurking I've decided to finally chime in. I'm a medical student from New Jersey who was given the 'gift' of a beard that came out patchy and unattractive because per unit area it wasn't dense- yet the hairs were strong and difficult to cut with a cart or an electric without clogging them multiple times. I think my first Razor was an impulse-buy Parker 99R, which when combined with the shark blades it came with didn't give me a pleasant shaving experience in any way- so I "dialed back" and used a vintage flare-tip super speed, still wasn't great. Going through a razor sampler I've decided the sharks just don't work well with me, as my shaves have become completely acceptable since switching to the derby's in the sampler.

At this point I've gone back to the 99R because I find the weight of it and the long handle to be fairly nice in terms of the smoothness of shave it delivers when held from the end.

Experimenting with the various soaps and aftershaves has been great as well. Price and performance not withstanding, I've realized that the careful ritual that I get to have every morning has been great in allowing me to "find my zen" and definitely improves my day to day in terms of stress, this alone would keep me wet shaving.

I look forward to learning more and contributing to this wonderful culture I've discovered.
