Fitjar Fogelfonn

Had my first shave this morning with Fitjar Fogelfonn. It's hard to place the scent but boy did it tingle, Ive used several creams that are heavy on the eucalyptus and the post shave experience leaves the skin refreshed. Fogelfonn was a new experience for me and I'm even having problems explaining exactly how my skin felt. I will give it another swirl tomorrow and see if I get the same burning/tingling experience after the shave. Are there any others out there who would share their experience with this cream?

I've used this Fitjar scent as well as another one and did not like the scent,performance or the way the made my skin feel afterwards either.They all gave me an uncomfortable 'tingling feeling'and more importantly,left my skin feeling extremely dry! I also had to use MUCH more product to get a decent lather. For me,Fitjar is a BIG thumbsdown !

I've owned 2 Fitjar shave creams - Citrus Kick and Folgefoon.


In short Fitjar Folgefonn is a 10/10 in one area and one area only - Scent !
Fantastic mild perppermint scent.


Fitjar Citrus Kick gave me my first reaction to a shaving cream ever, redness and puffiness, and a very dry lather. As with Craig, I had to use a lot of extra product, and if I didn't shave fast, the lather would dry up faster than any other cream I've tried - and I have tested 80+ shaving creams now and own 55 currently.


So sold my jar of Citrus Kick.


Kept the Folgefoon only because of its lovely scent, wonderful mild peppermint.
I now only use Folgefoon mixed with either Omega or Proraso green - and only because of the Folgefonn scent.


Also the Citrus Kick cream was very hard, while the Folgefonn is softer in texture......I still get a dry lather from the Folgefonn, even whe I use a lot extra product and I have really tried to experiment with the water ratio.
Musgo Real supposedly also should be a difficult cream to find the correct water ration with, but I love my Musgo Real :)


Fitjar Folgefonn however I still can't quite decide....sometimes mixed with the Proraso or the Omega it gives me a great shave, but most likely because of the Proraso/Omega - but I love the mild peppermint in Folgefonn very much, so still keep it, but for a €25-€30/$35-$40 shaving cream, it is just not good enough for me to be honest.


I may have received an old batch, but not so sure since I had to wait for it to arrive at the shop I bought it - I love to buy special shaving creams, and Fitjar is special - made in Norway o a small island, but I'll have to pass on Fitjar creams in the future, just too many high qulity creams out there that dwarfs Fitjar,both in terms of shaving performance and especially when compared to the price.


Only thing that keeps me just slightly interested in Fitjar shaving creams is their awesome scents.


Their Sandalwood, Fjellheim and Folgefonn are just very special great scents - but for me with my extremely hard water, Fitjar creams underperforms quite a bit as compared to what you would expect for such a high priced natural made shaving cream - but still the scent of Folgefonn is amazing, but even my €10 tube of Musgo Real and my 8€ tubes of Proraso red and green crushes my Fitjar when it comes to performance......so no more Fitjar for me thanks. If I want expensive, I already own Acqua Di Parma, Castle Forbes Liem & Lavender, 4 Penhaligons and also owned the Xpec.

Off-topic, but that is a lot of shaving creams. Can anyone on B&B top it? Most of the big collections I've come across on the forum so far are soap ones, not creams.

I agree with the comments above. I have Bregneskog, great scent, that's it.

I'm down scaling it a bit - was in at over 60 creams once, now I'm down to 48, sold some as I will buy all the 5 new Musgo Reals coming out and a couple of other new Portugese creams called Pó - and also would like to get the 2 La Toya creams added to my collection.

But it's not as if shaving creams are that expensive - I own 352 bottles of EDT - that has costed me a bit more, to be honest......but still you have people collecting Ferraris and Yacths out there, it's not as if a shaving cream collecting can tilt your budget or anything like that

352?? Zoinks!! That means a lucky 13 would get more than one outing if you used a different one every day over the course of a year.

I suppose I was more taken by the amount of creams because of shelf-life concerns.

My experience with Fitjar creams is that too much water will still produce a lather that looks great but does not perform well. When I dial it in correctly, it is not out-of-place alongside my top performers. The unique scents (Bregneskog is my favorite) are certainly a strong selling point, but not the only one IMO.

I agree - I have to take care of my fragrances and store them in a dark cupboard - never in direct sunlight and never in the bathroom because of humidity.
Frags officially last up to 3 years, but I take that with a grain of salt to be honest, end expect most of my frags to be able to last for 6-8 years - some will last 12+ years, some will turn bad/over before they reach 5 years probably - depending on ingredients in the frag and the bottle/spritzer design (how much oxygen it lest in)

Shaving creams is another worry of mine, since I only shave 3-4 times a week - I can only see ONE thing good about the extreme hard water I have in Copenhagen, where I live - I HAVE TO USE MORE PRODUCT
But I also expect my shaving creams in pots to last up to 3 years, and the ones in tubes to last 4-5 years - maybe I'm being optimistic here, but if you avoid filling the pot of shaving cream with water from your brush each time you shave - it should be able to last a lot longer than what the manufacturer say on the outside of the box.
