No idea why. Afterwards my coticule exploded into a fine dust and coated the whole room. Can't explain that one either. But it's bad, really really bad.

IRL though I just finished honing an ERN I bought off Ebay, I used oil on the coti. I can't imagine what all the ruckus is about, a little dish soap cleans it right off.
I used a little diamond spray with no ill effects either. I am pretty new to coticules and ended up finishing the razor on some lapping film because I didn't have it quite right and was done playing with it. I see potential though.

Wait, how easy is it to get banned here? :P
If you get a good shave with that combo you should get an award, not a pink slip.

I don't know, that might be a perfectly swell combo..

    ^--- this made me laugh...

i use oil... diamond spray... diamond slurry in oil.... i have put everything but angel tears and hooker sweat on my coti.....

absolutely no change to it... its a non-porous rock.... that means it doesn't have pores.... that means there are no little holes in it.....

i don't wash mine with dish soap either... i just sprinkle water on it and rub it with a towel then i go to town honing....

NOW that being said i will NOT be putting oil or any of that other stuff on my new JNAT....

    Lmao at your post Otto.

Paco, angel tears and hooker sweat come right off with a little Dawn. Have at it.

Gentlemen, a little decorum, please. Hookers do not sweat, they perspire.

    LOL...

I only used Dawn to clean the oil off because Paco said so! He didn't tell me how to handle hooker......perspiration.
Maybe that's what the angel tears are for.

    I prefer ketchup, or K-Y.

    P.S. Hookers don't sweat or perspire....they 'glow'.

Rat's - no turning back for me now, decided to make up some of Doc's Kool-Aid and touch up my razor on my one and only LPB with some baby oil (took a bit of squeezing ). So that is all set for tomorrow morning's shave - did a quick dry test on my cheek and feels good.
But a significant benefit for me was the ability to monitor that I was keeping my blade level on the stone (fairly narrow bout) with the edge riding under the oil - not as easy to see with water. Noticed that on my back hand stroke I rocked the tip a bit which might explain some of my previous hit and miss with finishing.

Looking forward to the morning - also first shave with some newly received Dr Selby soap.

Trying to get the subject back on track and away from hookers...

One of the lads recently reported that he left a drop of oil on his coticule over night (as an experiment) and in the morning it had soaked in and discoloured the stone.

What do you gents make of this?

That was Krodor I believe. He also said it slurries the same.

What yo make of it I don't know. I have not seen a change in my coticule but I don't leave the oil on it overnight.

Has he tried Simple green or soap to remove it? A drop of oil will spread out on any stone. Surface tension of oil is nothing like it is with water.

Hmm. And maybe the discolouration is so shallow a good rub with the slurry stone will clean it up? Dunno. I'm open minded on the subject, but I'll admit to a bit of paranoia about messing up my preciousousss....

If the forum you mean is the forum I think you mean, then y'all are amateurs. I got banned there years ago for proposing using coticules, period. Because everyone knows that coticules are too difficult to use and DMT's cause chips in razors.

I'm sure it's the same forum.

I must some special stones, mine are not the hard to use and my DMT does not chip anything.
