Default Geo. F. Trumper Rose cream and other rose creams/soaps

I'm not sure if this is in the right place, but since it pertains to both soaps and creams, I decided to put it here.

So when I placed an order with Bullgoose a little while ago I was also given a small one gram sample of Geo. F. Trumper Rose shaving cream. All I have been using has been Proraso soap/cream and C. O. Bigelow until one day I decided to try out the rose.

I was a little hesitant about using rose-scented anything, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. In fact, I loved it. So much that I plan on buying a tube of the Trumper tomorrow once I get payed. Great lather, great scent, great performance.

My question to all of you is have you found a rose scented soap or cream that you really like? Is it in your regular rotation? I understand that it's probably not the most popular, but I would love to check out a few top performing rose soaps/creams. Thanks for your input guys.

I like rose creams/soaps. It leaves my skin feeling nice. TOBS Rose cream is one of my favorites and one of the few creams left in my rotation. Salter Wild Rose is also a very good cream (performance-wise), but the scent is different than most rose creams. Trumper Rose soap is also in my rotation.

I have yet to try any TOBS products so maybe I'll start with some rose cream. Thank ya.

@njpaddy, I take it you prefer soaps over creams in general?

I find the GFT Rose cream to be a really average performer for me, and lately I've been finding it ever-so-slightly irritating. When the pot's over, it's over.

I have a Connaught Rose Otto cream in my rotation as well, and I much prefer that. Has a more natural rose scent, but it lathers up differently.

I also have a Bomb custom made with light rose and some other secret goodies (thank you again, Al) and it's absolutely one of my favourites. Al's custom offering is fantastic, and I treated myself to a special creation of my own. When the time comes, I'll be matching a Bomb balm with it as well.

If only there was a custom splash as well...speaking of which, is the DR Harris Pink splash a rose-type AS?

I do now, especially the Harris soaps. I made that switch in the past year after I began to face lather. The first couple of years I used mostly creams because I found them easier to bowl lather.

I can comment on the scent of Trumper rose as its been a long time since I tried any. I do however use Trumper Violet and find that the performance, for a bargain cream, brings it up to the top tier with T&H, Pens, Floris.

The T&H rose cream has a great scent and I prefer it to the GFT rose, but YMMV.

I like all the GFT creams-especially the coconut.

I like GFT Rose, smells nice. Lathers fine, but I'm not especially particular.

My first test lather with the Bulgarian Rose shaving cream. I have to say that the scent is the best rose that I have tired. I have tried T&H, GFT and now this. The T&H is very sweet, and the GFT although not as much still seems on the sweeter side. The bulgarian rose is a very nice rose scent that doesn't smell overly sweet. To me it seems more manly than the rest and I am really impressed by the lather it created. I am looking forward to shaving with it tomorrow. And at 6$, it is no brainer. I am considering getting the Aftershave.

In the beginning, I tried a number of different soaps and creams. Having been very satisfied with GFT creams, I've pretty much stuck with them lately (Coconut, Rose, and Violet). The GFT Rose is good (but so is the DR Harris Rose). It smells wonderful but may turn the tips of your brush red. (The GFT Coconut does not smell as nice, but it performs better in my estimation, probably dues to the oil content.)

Partiality to Rose scents, real ones or artificial, like all other scents, is a subject of personal preferences. Furthermore, rose based scents are not found in their pure straight form but in combination with other fragrances and ingredients. As far as I know, there are only two rose species, used to produce EOs for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries in the world - Rosa centifolia and Rosa damascena. The latter is used in about 70 to 80% of the products containing real Rose EO. Rose water distilled from it is used in the Rose of Bulgaria cream and the QCS Rose Otto soaps. This EO is expensive. For my personal use, I've found 10 ml EO for $120. If you want to smell Rosa centifolia, go to a Crabtree & Evelyne store, and have a sniff at their Rose line of fragrances. These were the facts. From my subjective point of view, closest to this scent of Rosa centifolia is the T&H version which is not based on EO though. GFT Rose also has similar scent. The artificial TOBS version smells similar to the Rosa damascena. It irritates my skin a bit. To me, one of the best artificial Rose scents is the powdery version of the Klars' Kabinett soap. Putting scents aside, Klar's Kabinett and and T&H are the best performers for me. I want to try the DRH Rose cream because I like the performance of their Windsor cream as much as I like the T&H.

Another vote for TOBS Rose. In addition to the fragrance, it's a great cream.

I liked the Trumpers Rose cream sample I tried, but not enough to buy a large amount of it. However, I always finish my shave with Thayers Rose witch hazel (alcohol free). It's a faint smell, but much nicer than non-scented. Each AS I have covers it up immediately.

    Trumpers is good stuff.

Surprisingly, I find rose smell to be soothing. Sadly, with Trumper, I find the smell only last as long as you have cream on your face. Also, after a couple of weeks or so of use, Trumpers Rose gave me a bit of a rash. I plan on trying other rose sented creams soon enough.

I'll cast yet another vote for TOBS rose. Is one of the few creams I own and use. Great stuff and my favorite rose scent I've tried as of yet. I like to really 'rose it up' and finish up shave with Thayers Rose WH and D.R. Harris Pink.
