I had good luck with Chinese pens. I have owned two Fuliwens and a Gui Guan. I piffed the Fuliwens, because I found I don't like fine nibs. But they were pretty good writers, for the price.

I borrowed rockvipers fuliwen, the nib on that one was a bit fine for me, but the pen worked just fine, so far between the chinese pens the jinhao 500 is my favourite i got it in a medium nib, i can still write small with it and have it be clear, and it keeps up with my work chicken scratch too

My Gui Guan #10 is a broad nib. It is also laquered over solid brass. You could crack a skull with it if you had to. It is my journal pen. We have a stickler at work who doesn't like the Black Swan in Australian Roses- says we have to use either blue or black. So, I use Bay State Blue just to chap his ass![]()

i thought i was just going to get a couple of cheap chinese pens to play with till i could get a nice one, but some for a buck or two, as high as 8 bucks lol these things can be cheaper then good disposables
and if i could chap my bosses ass at the same time all the better !
i am probably going to pick up a few more to have around house work the car now

syngent, In addition to working the pen on the inside of a cereal box with //// circles and squiggles for a few days, I took it to work yesterday and today and crossed my fingers, hoping not to get any 'burps' like you did. Everything went very well, no burps nor droplets, not even a bit of nib creep and the nib is a pretty nice F. The only concerns I had was that the morning start-up took about 20 seconds to get it flowing and in an hour meeting, it would start to dry if not in use, but that might be the Quink ink moreso than the pen. (Gotta grab some of that ink as it really does dry almost instantly).
Thanks for the loaner and I recommend giving this pen another try.

I have had good experience with all of my Chinese pens. They all seem to have their own personality. I really like the Jin Hoa as well, however I perfer a finer nib. Boaer makes a great pen. The Heros are great, but some of them need to be tinkered with a bit. Keeping a few Heros running smooth got me interested in more pen repair and tweaking. I have a pen roll that transports my pens back and forth to work and this also limits my inked pens. I developed the rule to have no more pens inked than what the roll will carry, which is five. That way I don't have pens all over the place with ink drying in them and it keeps me flushing and tweaking. I must admit to finally getting a couple of preppies from the Goulet's and eyedropping them. They transport well and I feel comfortable leaving them at work. I used some buffing compound to take the writing off of the sides of the Preppy barrels so they look a little classier. Great work pens. I'll use a gel if I have too, but can't bear to use a ballpoint anymore.
